TrumbleVision

I am overwhelmed with gratitude at the response to my previous video.

Thanks to each and every person that watched it, liked it, commented on it, and/or subscribed to my channel.

I had a blast making the video and did not expect it to get the response that it did, so that was an added bonus.

Just wanted to pop on and say I appreciate you and I'm working on the next one!

See you soon,

ian

"Do you ever wish you would die?"

"No. It's foolish to ask for luxuries in times like these."

The Road was released yesterday in 2009.

An adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's 2006 book of the same title. A story about a man and a boy trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world in which the other survivors will do anything for food and fuel.

The Road was not your typical action packed post-apocalyptic style story. Instead it was a story about a grey, bleak world that showed some of the worst directions humanity can go in order to survive. Though the book is considered by many to be McCarthy's best, the film adaptation wasn't received very well. This was likely due to most moviegoers not being prepared for the incredibly dark story and performances of Viggo Mortensen, as Man, and Kodi Smit-McPhee, as Boy.

What do you think? Was the film too dark or did the dark theme serve the story well?

Are you carrying the fire?

A story about two men who, in spite of the very likely underlying respect they seem to have for one another, turn on one another in pursuit of power and respect from the big boss.

No, I’m not talking about Casino.

I’m referring to Toy Story.

Though Toy Story AND Casino were released today in 1995.

At first glance, the two films’ only similarity appear to be their shared release date.

But if you look a little closer, they’re a bit of a reflection of one another.

Casino is about two characters who are best friends in the pursuit of power and attention as mob bosses. But in doing so, their friendship collapses and neither end up with the greatest outcome (though I would argue one of them had a better outcome than the other).

Toy Story is about two characters who hate each other and are in pursuit of power over one another and attention from their boss, Andy. But in doing so, they end up becoming friends and end up with a mutual concern, a dachshund.

Casino’s beginning is a lot like Toy Story’s ending, and vice versa.

What do you think? Are Sam & Nicky, Woody & Buzz more alike than different?

Rocky was released today in 1976.

Twilight was also released today in 2008.

Rocky had a budget of $1.1M and Sylvester Stallone has said that he was so broke leading up to getting the film made, he had to sell his dog.

Twilight had a budget of $37M and Robert Pattinson has said it's bizarre that a 108 year old vampire would fall in love with a 17 year old he sits next to in biology.

While both films don't have a lot in common, they do have one thing they share.

And no, I'm not talking about Rocky & Twilight being great films (because BOTH are).

The thing they share is the incredible impact they've had on society and the success each franchise has seen in the box office.

Rocky literally popularized the "rags-to-riches" theme in sports films after it's release and is frequently considered one of the greatest films of all time.

Since Rocky's original release in 1976 there have been a total of 9 films in the franchise, including the Creed spin off and in total has raked in over $1.7B (for Billion) at the box office.

Twilight...well say what you will about Twilight, but there isn't a single person on this planet that hasn't at least heard of Twilight.

Since Twilight's original release in 2008 there have been a total of 5 films in the franchise. Banking more than $3.36B between them.

Knowing Rocky & Twilight share a release date, I think the only conclusion to take from this is we need to see Sly getting into the ring with Rob in

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was released today in 1975

The film is about a criminal conman by the name of R.P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) who dodges prison time by claiming insanity, landing him in a psychiatric facility. Initially McMurphy believes he got the better end of the deal, but it turns out the brutality of the staff and the dysfunctionality of the facility lead to a far worse outcome than he could have imagined.

After its release there was an article in the National Alliance of Mental Illness Iowa that said, “with its negative depiction of mental health facilities, many mental health professionals site it as the most damaging piece of film ever created for the psychiatric community.”

The counterpoint has been that the film did an excellent job shining a light on the unfair treatment of patients in some of these facilities and of conveying the usage of electroconvulsive (ECT) treatments were as much for control as for treatment.

Have you seen One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest? Which side of the debate do you fall on?

The Land Before Time was released today in 1988.

The original was directed by Don Bluth (whose credits include An American Tail, All Dogs Go to Heaven, Anastasia, and more) and had George Lucas and Steven Spielberg as executive producers.

Though the franchise went on to make 13 additional films and a TV show, the original film was the only one to include Bluth, Lucas, and Spielberg.

And likely a contributing factor as to why it’s the best one in the franchise.

What do you think? Is the original the best of The Land Before Time franchise? Which one do you love?

Space Jam came out 28 years ago today.

Though Michael Jordan was depicted as an excellent shooter at a young age in the opening of the film, in real life he didn’t make the cut for his high school varsity team when trying out his sophomore year.

Out of frustration, Jordan dominated the junior varsity scene, frequently scoring 40 points per game and solidifying his position on the varsity team for the following year. Where continued to dominate his way through high school, college, and into an incredible professional career.

So when Bugs Bunny and the gang were invaded by aliens trying to kidnap them to be used as tourist attractions at the Moron Mountain amusement park the Looney Tunes decided to challenge the aliens to a basketball game to decide whether or not Moron Mountain would be their next destination.

Bugs and the rest of the Tune Squad were able to call upon Jordan (and Bill Murray) who had done so well to secure a win against the alien team, the Monstars.

Thus, protecting the Looney Tunes and preventing them from being turned into an amusement park attraction.

Jim Carrey has stated that he's not fond of doing sequels for previous films he's starred in, as he finds them to be a, "function of commerce."

Though having done one earlier in his career with Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995). It would be another 19 years before Carrey would make another with the release of Dumb and Dumber To on November 14, 2014.

He has also said that even with having a good time returning to the character of Lloyd, particularly to play along Jeff Daniels' Harry in the sequel, the entire time Jim felt like a parrot just trying to imitate the inspiration from the original that had been released 20 years prior.

What do you guys think? Did his recapturing of Lloyd end up working or did it fall short when compared to the original Dumb and Dumber?
