4 months living in Japan. Here's what nobody tells you.
We landed in Sendai in March with four kids and zero idea what daily life here would actually look like.
This week my wife sat me down and asked the tough questions on camera: What's actually harder than we expected? What surprised us? What would we tell someone thinking about doing this?
Some answers came instantly. Others I'm still working out.
A few things I didn't expect: how much slower and more deliberate everyday life feels here. How different the school system is for our kids. How far a supermarket run can turn into a genuine cultural lesson. And how much we didn't miss once we stopped looking for it.
We're based in Sendai, well off the Tokyo tourist track — which turned out to be one of the best decisions we made without realizing it at the time.
