Shri Bhattacharya served as the Chairman of our company from January 2015 to August 2017.
Our Chairman, Shri B. Sairam along with Director (Business Development) Shri Asheesh Kumar met U.S. Consul General Ms. Kathy Giles-Diaz at our corporate office in Kolkata for a constructive discussion on opportunities for collaboration with the U.S. government and private sector.
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, explore potential partnerships, and strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest across the energy and mining sectors.
"Training and Learning are an important part in ensuring safety," said our Chairman, Shri B. Sairam, while addressing the 62nd Coal India Safety Board Meeting organised in Kolkata.
He emphasised that safety is a continuous process and stressed on the importance of following all safety guidelines and SOPs to ensure safe operations. He also expressed hope that the meeting would serve as a platform for discussions on areas of improvement.
Speaking on the occasion Director General, DGMS, Shri Ujjwal Tah underscored that production, productivity, and safety together drive the nation's progress. He stressed the importance of effectively implementing the decisions taken at the meeting to further strengthen safety across operations.
Our Director (Technical), Shri Achyut Ghatak, reaffirmed our commitment to implementing the suggestions received and outlined various initiatives taken to further enhance operational safety.
Our Director (Marketing/HR โ Additional Charge), Shri Mukesh Choudhary; CMDs of our subsidiary companies; senior officials of DGMS; representatives of trade unions and CMOAI; Safety Board members; and other senior officials took part in the meeting.
At the outset of the meeting, all the dignitaries paid floral tributes at the Martyrs' Memorial at our corporate headquarters in Kolkata.
Shri Chitranjan Kumar has assumed charge as Director (Technical - Operations) of our subsidiary, Eastern Coalfields Limited, at its headquarters in Sanctoria. Prior to this assignment, he was serving as Area General Manager of the Magadh-Sanghamitra Area of Central Coalfields Limited.
A graduate in Mining Engineering from BIT Sindri, Shri Kumar also holds a First-Class Manager's Competency Certificate and an MBA degree and has served in various capacities at Eastern Coalfields Limited, Central Coalfields Limited, and Bharat Coking Coal Limited.
"The future lies in e-mobility," said our Chairman, Shri B. Sairam, while addressing a seminar on Transitioning Coal Logistics, organized at our corporate office in Kolkata.
He said that, given the evolving global energy landscape and the prevailing energy challenges, the transition to electric vehicles is crucial. He also emphasized that Coal India remains at the forefront of this transition and is committed to supporting all stakeholders in this journey.
Sharing his thoughts on the topic of the seminar, our Director (Technical) Shri Achyut Ghatak stated that transitioning to electric vehicles is not only essential for sustainability but also a business imperative. He reiterated Coal India's commitment to promoting environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly operations.
Senior officials from our corporate office, representatives from the Ministry of Heavy Industries, and electric vehicle manufacturers participated in the seminar.

The inaugurated Coal NEER plants include the Bachra Coal NEER Plant at Piparwar Area of Central Coalfields Limited, the Handidhua Coal NEER Plant at Talcher Area of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, the Coal NEER Plant at Johila Area of South Eastern Coalfields Limited, and the Coal NEER Plant at PB Area of Bharat Coking Coal Limited.
Through the Coal NEER initiative, water discharged from mines is treated and converted into safe, potable drinking water for nearby communities, promoting sustainable water resource management and ensuring the optimum utilisation of natural resources.
On the occasion, two tripartite MoUs were signed. The first was between Bharat Coking Coal Limited, the Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority, and Hindalco Industries Limited to establish a vocational training centre. The second was signed between Bharat Coking Coal Limited, the Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority, and Rajdhani Universal Fabrics Private Limited to establish a textile manufacturing unit. Both initiatives will benefit the population rehabilitated under the Jharia Master Plan.
Our Director (Technical), Shri Achyut Ghatak, CMDs of our subsidiary companies, and senior officials from the Ministry of Coal and Coal Controller Organisation were also present on the occasion.
Our Chairman, Shri B. Sairam, participated in a roundtable discussion on the topic "Beyond Mine Closure: Creating Opportunities for Tomorrow" on the sidelines of AAROH: Annual Report on Scientific Mine Closure, held in New Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri B. Sairam shared his views on the importance of sustainable mine closure and creating opportunities for future generations. He shared that Coal India has scientifically closed 41 mines so far and has set a target to reclaim 91 more mines by FY 2027โ28.
The roundtable discussion also featured Shri K. Venkateswarlu, Director (Planning & Projects), SCCL; Shri Suresh Chandra Suman, Director (Technical), NLCIL; and Shri N. K. Gupta, General Manager (Mining), Tata Steel.

The Round Table featured presentations and discussions led by the National Mining Association (NMA), USA, and the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Subsequently, the delegation held a bilateral meeting with senior U.S. government officials to discuss opportunities for strengthening collaboration between the two countries in the coal and energy sectors.
We organised a cybersecurity awareness program at our corporate office in Kolkata in partnership with the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime unit for our current and retired employees.

With cyber threats becoming increasingly sophisticated, the police officials conducted an insightful session on emerging cyber-crimes such as phishing, spoofing, impersonation, digital arrest scams, and other fraudulent tactics used for financial fraud and identity theft.
The programme concluded with practical tips and preventive measures, equipping participants with the knowledge to protect their personal data, digital identity, and hard-earned savings in today's evolving digital landscape.
