The next leg of my genlocke has been completed! This time, because I have probably played generation 2 games the most out of all of the Pokemon games, I decided to do a romhack made by TheSmithPlays: Crystal Legacy. I did some research about it before I started. I wanted to capture the heart and soul of the original game with the one that I played with some added quality of life improvements as well as some earlier access to more Pokemon. It also made the game a little more challenging with updated lineups for the gym battles including better movesets and (at least in my opinion) smarter battle AI. All in all, Crystal Legacy was a great hack, and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves generation 2 as much as I do!
The rule set I used:
1. You may only catch the first Pokemon you encounter on each route. If this Pokemon faints during battle, you do not get another chance to catch another Pokemon on said route.
1a. Shiny clause: If a subsequent encounter on a route is shiny, this overrides the original rule, and you may catch this Pokemon.
2. You must name each of your caught Pokemon, creating a bond with them and getting emotionally attached to each mon. This makes the next rule slightly more emotionally driven.
3. If your Pokemon faints in battle, it is considered dead. I put them in a special box in my PC called "F". (Press F to pay respects).
3a. I had one clause on this. As long as all trainers are defeated on a route, and I am just grinding levels for the next gym, I do not consider a Pokemon dead if they faint in a wild encounter. The reason I chose this as a rule to follow was it was exhausting to go back and forth to the Pokemon Center after a single wild encounter to ensure they don't die. I am not using rare candies because the grind itself makes me more emotionally attached to my Pokemon as well, so I am giving myself slight leeway in the training aspect of my Pokemon.
4. Only held items may be used during battle. No other items such as potions, revives, ethers can be used during battle.
5. No Pokemon can be higher level than the next gym leader's ace. If that somehow occurs, they are disqualified from participating in that gym challenge.
6. The champions that survive the Elite Four have the privilege of becoming starter Pokemon, back at level 5, for the next game! I also make them shiny for the next generation to ensure every trainer I face knows that they are the descendants of champions! I realized during my Crystal Legacy playthrough that making these descendants shiny made the pain of losing them that much greater as well.
6a. I also used the other Garbage Boys as a random number generator to give each of the champions in the next generation a random egg move that each champion can learn in the upcoming generation.
Unfortunately, a lot of my champions from the previous generation did not survive the early game. I think I underestimated how much of a difficulty spike the romhack would be versus the vanilla game, and a few friends paid the price for it. Before I catch too much flak, I know that it's still not a difficulty hack like Radical Red, but I'm also not THAT good at Pokemon so a few surprise movesets from the updated gym roster threw me off guard!
I hope I didn't mess myself up in later generations by catching so many Pokemon that had to be retired. I don't think I realized how many I had caught until I was updating this graphic, and boy was I surprised!
Please welcome the Champions of Crystal Legacy, who not only beat the Elite Four and their rematch teams, but also Red at the summit of Mt. Silver:
Todoroki the Typhlosion
Vanta the Umbreon
Reptar the Tyranitar
Killua the Electabuzz
Ysera the Dragonite
Saka the Starmie
I was on a bit of an anime kick while I was playing this generation, as you can see by a couple of the Champions' names.
My final thoughts on this hack: the final fight against Red was slightly underwhelming, and I'm not sure why. The rematches with the Elite Four gave me a run for my money; some battles I finished with health in the red for several on my team. I had decided to try to level my Pokemon to the average level of all of Red's Pokemon from the vanilla game, so I wasn't overleveled by any means. After the Elite Four rematches, I thought I would probably lose at least one or two of my team, but they all held through. I guess that's just the power of friendship.
Pokemon Emerald is my next game to play! I've played Ruby and Sapphire, but never Emerald, so I'm excited to see what kinds of changes there will be to see. I look forward to updating everyone on another victorious run through the next generation of Pokemon!

Conner started a (off-screen) genlocke!
For those of you who have never heard of a genlocke before, it's similar to a nuzlocke, but you carry your champions through to the next generation of Pokemon game!
6a. I also use the other Garbage Boys as a random number generator to give each of the champions in the next generation a random egg move that each champion can learn in the upcoming generation.
I admittedly played Leaf Green instead of Pokemon Yellow for the first generation. While I grew up on, and loved for the longest time, Pokemon Yellow and Blue, I can admit to the absolute jank of their mechanics, and wanted something a little different.
My next game I will be playing is Pokemon Crystal Legacy, a quality of life romhack by SmithPlays. I think I've played and beaten Gen 2 the most out of all of the games, so to make things slightly harder with adding Pokemon and more varied movesets to gym leaders while also giving me slightly better and more varied encounters, I chose this romhack as the Gen 2 choice. It also comes in with a built in gym cap, so a Pokemon will stop gaining experience once they are the same level as the next gym's ace.
Without further ado, let me introduce my Champions of Gen 1:
Lettuce the Venusaur
Kurama the Ninetails
Hannah the Rhydon
Cambridge the Dodrio
Faraday the Magneton
Saka the Starmie
I look forward to hopefully updating you all soon about the Champions of the next Generation. I am going to play through to beating Red instead of just finishing the Elite Four. Wish me luck!!

Hey everyone! This is Conner. I just wanted to apologize for the lower quality audio balance I’ve had on a few of my most recent videos/a few upcoming ones. When recording at a different place than we normally do, there are obviously some kinks to iron out. Please excuse me (and offer me an egg) in these trying times.
