Strategic Test Prep

Hi! I’m Laura Whitmore, founder of Strategic Test Prep. I scored a 1590 on the digital SAT and have spent the past 19 years helping thousands of students dramatically increase their SAT and ACT scores.
I personally built and trained a team of 1500+ scoring tutors, and together we’ve helped more students break into the 1500s than any other tutoring company.
Our specialty is taking motivated students scoring in the 1300s and 1400s and helping them break into the 1500s with the strategies, patterns, and mindset needed to master the SAT.

The SAT gives you a formula sheet—but it leaves out most of THIS. 😅

Slope rules, quadratic forms, exponent laws, factoring patterns, systems, inequalities, domain checks…you’re still expected to recognize and use them correctly under pressure.

With the August SAT just days away, don’t waste time searching through scattered notes.

🔖 Save this algebra cheat sheet for your final review, then send it to the friend whose entire Math strategy is “Desmos will figure it out.” 😂

Which section do you need to review one more time: linear functions, quadratics, exponents, or factoring?

Your 1400 probably won’t become a 1500 by repeating the same easy SAT questions. 😬 For students already scoring 1350+, the missing points usually aren’t hiding in the basics. They’re hiding in tricky wording, advanced concepts, timing decisions, and answer choices designed to look almost right.

That’s why our October SAT Advanced Strategy Class moves faster and goes deeper in both English and Math.

📅 Starts Sunday, August 30
⏰ 12:00–3:00 PM (ET)
💻 Live on Google Meet
🎯 Target test: October 3 SAT
📝 Full proctored mock: September 26
🔥 1350+ baseline required

If your October score goal starts with a 14 or 15, don’t wait until the week of the test to start getting strategic. Save this, send it to your parent or student, and claim your spot at: strategictestprep.com/events

What score are you aiming for this October? 👇

The SAT loves putting four perfectly “academic” transition words in the same answer set—and hoping you choose by vibe. 😅

Part 2 of our SAT Transitions Cheat Sheet breaks down the relationships students constantly mix up:
🔍 Example vs. clarification
💥 Addition vs. emphasis
⏳ Meanwhile vs. subsequently
🎯 Summary vs. conclusion
⚠️ Plus, the transition trap pairs that make wrong answers look right

The trick isn’t memorizing a giant vocabulary list. It’s identifying the exact job the transition needs to perform.

🔖 Save this for your next SAT practice test, share it with someone who needs Part 2, and try the challenge on the final slide. What’s your answer: A, B, C, or D?

A 1520 doesn’t happen because someone said, “just study more.” 👀 It happens when the studying actually has a strategy behind it.

One of our students worked with Puneet to build an effective SAT study plan—and his mom later shared that he reached a 1520. 🏆

That’s the kind of message we LOVE getting. 🥹 The goal isn’t endless practice questions. It’s figuring out what’s costing you points, what actually needs work, and how to prepare smarter from there.

Now we want to know: What SAT score are YOU chasing? 👇

If you’re choosing SAT transitions based on vibes, you’re basically donating points to College Board. 😅

Words like moreover, similarly, nevertheless, and therefore may all sound right—but they perform completely different jobs.

👉 Part 1 of our SAT Transitions Cheat Sheet breaks down the four core relationships:
➕ addition
🪞 similarity
⚡ contrast
🔗 cause and effect
plus, the same-direction trap that makes wrong answers feel suspiciously correct.

🔖 Save this before your next practice test, send it to the friend who always picks the “smartest-sounding” word, and swipe to the final slide.

What’s your answer: A, B, C, or D?

If your extracurricular list looks like it was built by an admissions algorithm… we need to talk. 😬

Starting a nonprofit isn’t automatically impressive. Joining 10 clubs doesn’t guarantee “well-rounded.” And you definitely don’t need to become a researcher, founder, athlete, and community activist overnight.

✨ There is no universal “Ivy-worthy” activity.

Selective colleges look for evidence of things like depth, initiative, contribution, curiosity, responsibility, and personal growth—within the context of the opportunities you actually had. 🤩

part-time job, family responsibility, creative project, sport, or long-term club involvement can reveal more about you than a fancy title ever will. 💪

Before choosing an activity, ask yourself:
“Would I still care about this if the Common App didn’t exist?” 👀

Stop manufacturing the “perfect” résumé. Build a real story. 🥇

Studying for the September ACT but forgetting to register would be a very expensive plot twist. 😅

The regular registration deadline is tomorrow, August 14, at 11:59 p.m. CT. After that, a late fee applies—and your preferred test center may have fewer seats available. 😱

Before you submit, double-check your test center, testing format, optional sections, and any accommodations or language supports you need. ✅

Register through the official ACT website:

Save this reminder—and send it to the friend who keeps saying, “I’ll do it later.” 👀

SAT Math Formulas Even 700+ Scorers Forget 👀

If your SAT Math strategy is “the formula is on the reference sheet, so I’m fine,” formulas 16–20 have some bad news. 😅

Knowing a formula isn’t enough if you miss the parentheses, scale volume incorrectly, or test a point for only one value of the variable. 👉 This SAT Math Cheat Sheet covers five shortcuts hiding inside questions that even 700+ scorers still miss.

🔖 Save this before your next practice test, then watch our complete 700s Club Pt. 2 walkthrough to see these strategies used on 10 of the hardest SAT Math questions.

Be honest: which trap gets you—the circle coefficients, the cubic scale factor, or the parameterized point? 👇

STOP copy-pasting your way through the Ivy League. 😬

If your application could be sent to Harvard, Brown, Cornell, or Columbia without changing a word… it may be saying more about “any prestigious college” than why you actually belong at that school.

But don’t create eight fake personalities, either.

The winning strategy:
✨ Keep the same authentic story
🎯 Highlight the experiences most relevant to each school
🏫 Get specific about its programs, culture, and opportunities
🚫 Never force a connection just to sound impressive

Same student. Same values. Different spotlight.

Hot take: The hardest SAT Math questions usually aren’t testing whether you memorized a formula—they’re testing whether you recognize the trap hiding inside it. 👀

Formulas 11–15 cover:
📐 The area-conversion mistake students keep making
📊 How to recognize systems with no solution
➗ The absolute-value shortcut
📈 How to find (k) using parallel slopes
⭕ The circle mistake that catches strong scorers

Save this before your next practice test—and be honest: which one would have fooled you? 👇
