THIS IS WHY YOU CAN'T OPEN AN AIRCRAFT DOOR AT 35,000 FEET

You might have wondered:

"What would happen if someone tried to open the door during a flight?" 🤔

The cabin is pressurized, creating a huge pressure difference between the inside and outside.

At cruising altitude, that pressure difference effectively keeps the aircraft doors secured in place.

So despite what movies sometimes show… you can't simply walk up and open the door at cruising altitude.

YOU’RE THE CAPTAIN. YOU HAVE ONE DECISION TO MAKE…

You’re on final approach with 150 passengers onboard.

Suddenly, you get a warning that the landing gear may not be fully down. 😳

The aircraft is flying normally, but you don't know yet if the gear is actually locked.

THE "BLACK BOX" ISN'T BLACK.

It's actually usually bright orange.

Why?

Because after an accident, investigators need to find it as quickly as possible and bright colors make it easier to spot among wreckage.

And here's another surprise:

There isn't usually just one "black box." Aircraft generally carry two key recorders: one records flight data and another records cockpit audio.

✈️ Did you already know this?
