This video was in development hell for months. So I figured, since I’m too busy to work on this, why not just release the script? It’s better to release something rather than nothing.

The Heart is Deceitful & Revenge is Pointless, as Explained in SONIC MOVIE 3

There are moments when the heart races. Why is that? It can be for multiple reasons. Maybe it’s nervous and wants to succeed, maybe it doesn’t want to get embarrassed, maybe it’s excited, or maybe it just wants to survive. 

The heart tells us what we are feeling. Whether it be nervousness, fear or excitement. However, the heart is not our best friend. And it’s not always obvious what our heart is feeling in particular moments. 

In The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie, for example, there are many instances where a character’s heart can be deceiving. Specifically, the characters Sonic and Shadow. Their hearts deceive them in many different ways. Both characters have motivations, moments when they believe they’re doing the right thing, morally, yet they were actually plotting evil without realizing it. 

We begin our story, in Sonic’s old cave. 

In this scene, Tom explains to Sonic, “it’s all about the choices we make.” We can choose to do the right thing, or we can choose to abandon our morals and hurt not only ourselves, but those we care about the most. One way to know if we are making the right choices in life is by observing our hearts metaphorically. Notice how I did not say to follow your heart, or to trust your heart, but instead I said to observe your heart, or in other words, “watch your heart”, “examine your heart”, “dissect your heart”. Tom says it another way, though, in my opinion not as accurate as “watching, examining, or dissecting your heart”, it still opens the door for discussion. 

“As long as you remember to listen to your heart… you’ll make the right choice where it matters most.” 

 Again, notice how Tom doesn’t say to trust your heart. Why? Because the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. Who can understand it fully, and know its secret motives? (Jeremiah 17:9) Sonic tells Tom that he doesn’t know what he would do without him. This is foreshadowing a following scene around the middle of this story, Where Tom gets severely injured by Shadow the Hedgehog. The main antagonist of this movie. 

I will briefly explain Shadow’s backstory. His friend Maria was tragically shot to death, and now he is seeking revenge on humanity for taking the only thing that gave him happiness. I mean, that’s the canon version of his backstory anyway. But if they would’ve put that in this movie, this movie probably would’ve had a different age rating… too edgy. 

So Shadow’s life lesson in this movie is he must discover that revenge isn’t the answer. 

“I was so blinded by rage I thought, I had no choice”. 

Jesus says to love your enemies and to pray for those who persecute you. Near the end of this movie, Shadow complicates whether or not it’s what Maria would’ve even wanted. Seeking revenge on humanity, but the irony is that Maria is a human herself. Maria is able to sympathize with cruel human hearts better than the antagonists. In other Sonic stories, she encourages Shadow to do the right thing.

In this movie, it is Sonic who encourages Shadow to make the right choice. 

After Tom is badly injured, Sonic is filled with pure anger and rage. Pleading with Knuckles to allow him to go Super Sonic so that he can stop Shadow and his evil ways. 

“Your heart is being consumed by anger, hedgehog. You are in no position to make decisions right now.” 

Knuckles allows Sonic to seek the power for himself, and go after Shadow, and after an epic fight, Shadow explains to Sonic his hypocrisy. Basically saying, “how can you get mad at me for seeking revenge on humanity when you’re seeking after me with the same anger and rage that I feel?” After Sonic almost murders Shadow, he thinks for a moment about what he is about to do, and he remembers what Tom told him to “watch his heart”. And Sonic makes a choice here. His decision is realizing that there are no winners with revenge. 

Another quote that I found that resonates with this movie is “guard your heart for is the wellspring of life.” Because we need the heart to make every decision in this life that we live in. If our hearts are corrupted by trauma or if someone stabs us in the heart metaphorically, it could lead our minds down a dark path that’s very difficult to get out of without proper counseling, and helpful people. This is going to happen regardless of our lives and having friends and family and a community to go back to when we’re feeling down is a great way to boost back our trust and our love one for one another. But the truth is that God is in control and all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord. As long as we remember that truth, everything will be okay even when it doesn’t feel like anything is okay.

But when life happens, don’t abandon your friends like Sonic does in this movie. And if you do abandon your friends, apologize. Let them know how much you appreciate them. And if you are a friend, forgive. Because friends aren’t God, friends are not perfect, friends do things sometimes that hurt our hearts, but that is human nature. We have to remember that even though one percent of the time a friend may do something we do not like, 99% of the time they are there to help us, love us and protect us. 

In conclusion, love isn’t about feelings. Because feelings cannot always be trusted. Love is commitment to something. But that is also a choice. Depends on the situation or the context. To be committed to something that is toxic and has no purpose (like drugs or smoking, or p.m.o.) is not good, but whatever feels godly inspired, that’s what we should be committed to. Love is not about a feeling it’s about a commitment. It’s a choice.

Don’t trust your “feelings”. “Feelings” cannot always be trusted. Love is not about “feelings”. To love something is a commitment… It’s a choice. No matter how you “feel”, you can always choose to do the right thing.

I want to make a comeback on this channel more than you may think I do. Time, and God can only tell the future, (because real life is a thing lol), but one of the desires of my heart is to get this channel back up and running. I do miss the YouTube grind, and I want to upload at least 2 times a week. There are still stories to be told, both real life and fictional. There are still more ideas to explore. There's still more motivation that needs to be expressed. The question for me is how to evolve this channel correctly and effectively. It's not about pleasing everyone, it's about finding something that I can see myself doing over and over again and never get tired of. That is flow. That is next level.

Quick Update: New (original) video is in the works, but in the meantime, I have made some quality of life improvements to my previous documentary, "What is the True Meaning of Life, as Inspired by Gumball". There are now timestamps/chapters in the description, so it will make finding the important stuff much easier. I apologize because this was very important. This change was long overdo as the video essay has been out for almost 7 months now, but better late than never. Please consider taking a look! Not dead.

I know... I know... show don't tell. So... some context. The last few months for me have been very busy. Lots of real life stuff has been happening... not necessarily bad stuff though... I have been greatly blessed in more ways than one in these months... it's really that I just haven't had as much time as I used to to make the kind of quality documentary-like projects I inspire to create. I actually had a video in the works for over a month, but long story short, that one went into "development hell" as I like to call it. Because it was too ambitious for my own good. Who knows, maybe I'll decide to finish it one day because I think it could still change at least one person's life.

Unless I go to Heaven earlier than expected... I will return soon with a new(ish) style and format to my videos. That is the plan right now. So please stay patient everyone. Thanks for being so kind and understanding.
