Today I had the honor of meeting legendary drummer Jonathan Moffett — known to many around the world as “Sugarfoot.” For those who may not know, Sugarfoot was the powerhouse drummer behind Michael Jackson for years, bringing unmatched energy, timing, precision, and showmanship to some of the most iconic live performances in music history. Seeing him up close and talking with him reminded me that true greatness is often paired with humility. His level of speed, control, and accuracy on the drums is astonishing. Whether you’re a drummer or not, you need to check out his work and witness the excellence for yourself. We had a great conversation about music, technology and creativity. Why does the Genos 2 cost $2,000 more than the Montage M — even though the Montage sounds BETTER?

I went deep on this and the answer is wild.

The Montage M has a more powerful synthesis engine (AWM2 + FM-X, 88 algorithms, Motion Control). The Genos 2 doesn't. Yet Genos costs more. How?

Because you're not buying a synth. You're buying a content library — 550+ hand-crafted styles, vocal harmony, built-in speakers, XLR mic input. A one-person band in a box, targeted at solo gigging musicians aged 55–75 who WILL pay for it.

But here's where it gets uncomfortable:

— The PSR-SX920 does 90% of the same thing for a third of the price
— The E483 at $449 runs the same AWM2 engine and sounds remarkable
— Suno AI generates full arrangements with vocals for $12/month
— Chinese manufacturers are about to build AI-native arrangers at $400–600

The arranger market is pricing itself into extinction. The demographic that sustains it is aging out. No replacement generation is coming.
