As you know, most of the interviews on my channel were originally filmed for particular documentaries. The films - such as the 2001 doc "The Pink Floyd & Syd Barrett Story" - were shown a few times by different broadcasters and then forgotten about. In a few cases a subsequent DVD surfaced which preserved the film for avid fans. A few clips from the interviews surfaced as Extras. Meanwhile I boxed up all the interview tapes for a storage life that would have to end one day ...and that was that!

I began this YouTube channel in May 2021 as the pandemic was lifting. I had not made a film since 2016 and was feeling creatively stymied. Dipping a toe into the vast YouTube ocean seemed a fairly futile gesture ! But what did I have to lose ?! My first thought was to offer to the world selections of the Pink Floyd interviews fairly uncut, but still not to the full length of the original interviews.

After much trial and error, I started digging out the original tapes and going all the way - so that David Gilmour's 2001 interview lasting 1hr 41 min got uploaded in it's entirety.
Would people watch something that long ? I had my doubts. Three years later, it's very clear that if you're a fan, you cannot have enough original stuff like this !
David's full interview is the most popular video on the channel with 843,450 views in 2.5 years. Average length of viewing time - 19.5 mins.

The great thing about attracting that kind of attention is that new viewers arrive on the channel every day. Many of these then discover the wealth of Pink Floyd /Syd Barrett related interviews that I have conducted - for the 2001 doc and then the 2011 film "Pink Floyd: The Story of Wish You Were Here" . There is a treasure trove here that I know many find absorbing and invaluable .

Everyone who knew him was shocked to hear of his sudden death in August at the age of 73.
Richard Macphail was Genesis's irreplaceable tour manager , roadie and very good friend.
He had invited me to be a guest on his weekly show Radio Rich Pickings. We talked about a possible date in October.
Now October is here, I thought I would dig the raw footage of my long 2014 interview with him and put together a couple of selections that haven't been seen before. As a kind of In Memoriam piece.
We start with his account of Genesis's first trip to America... with a delightful preamble about soundmen "with bionic ears"..

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY WHO FOLLOWS MY CHANNEL - ESPECIALLY TO ALL YOU SUBSCRIBERS !!
This weekend I reached the unbelievable number of 35,000 subscribers !

It's amazing to me - having started this crazy venture on May 11th 2021 with no idea of what I was doing !
Would anyone be interested in watching long unedited interviews from my years of making documentaries ?
Would YouTube even carry stuff that's over an hour long ? How to get these videos off old tapes and into a format that YouTube accepts ? What about the degraded video quality ? .. uneven sound ? .. the often jumpy camerawork because they are outtakes ? etc etc ...

Well now I know the answer !! If the subject is compelling enough, all the technical imperfections become far less important to most viewers. Although I do understand those who are still bugged by the quality of some of this.

Over the next few months I am going to try and improve the audio and/or visual quality of some of my most popular interviews. Plus I'll be uploading more new stuff as I dig into my old store and digitise more tapes !

If you're a Genesis fan, I'm guessing you have probably watched at least some of my Genesis Reunion videos.
You know they are unique. - in spite of the very poor audio quality.
My latest upload here is a 5 min clip of the five guys discussing their last reunion gig in 1982.
I have added posters and photos to give it more interest but the key difference here
is the *MUCH IMPROVED AUDIO *

If you think it is worth doing, my intention is to have a similar audio remix applied to the entire 2hr+ Genesis Reunion interview . Does it make a difference ? Certainly my voice comes through more clearly now.
Does that help your viewing/listening pleasure.

Would you be inclined to watch the entire 2hr + if I upload it as one video with improved audio ? Or. should I post it in four parts as previously ?
