Let's start with coffee

We got such a nice caricature from friends for our 5th wedding anniversary 🩷

Everything that is most important to us was in one picture: us, our beautiful kuksa cups, canoe, nature and our cats' ears 😁

The caricature hangs on an honorable wall and reminds us that it's time to plan our next trip to Scandinavia 😍😍😍

Let's start with coffee

Autumn has finally arrived, so it's not only a time for walking, but also for taking beautiful pictures.

Zemborzycki Lake in Lublin gave us a great view and showed its autumnal virtues 😊

Coffee in the autumn sun tastes even better 🙂

And with the most beloved person, with whom you can share your passions and realize them, then it tastes best 😃

Borgholm Castle, located on the island of Öland in Sweden, is a historic site with roots dating back to the 13th century.

Originally built as a medieval fortress, it was expanded in the 17th century into a grand royal residence.

Today, the castle exists mainly as impressive ruins, showcasing its massive stone walls and intricate architectural elements.

The site attracts many visitors, offering insights into Sweden's history and stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Going from point to point, we came upon this palace.

It turned out to be Vittskövle Castle, one of the best preserved Renaissance palaces in the Nordic countries.

Today it is privately owned, but you can enter the gardens and take a closer look at the building.

Päijänne

Finland's second-largest lake is very close to civilisation - just 40 km from Lahti - and that makes us more than just looking for a green harbour.

But we couldn't resist making an appearance here. We have already sailed on Finland's largest and third-largest lake. Now it's time for the second. Close by is the world's most famous esker - the one the road runs through. One of the campsites was also on a beautiful sandy beach, thanks to the eksers. Finally, this is the area through which the two Salpausselkä ridges and esker chains run.

The part of the lake we are exploring is under the protection of the park, and as such you can only camp in designated, prepared areas. Fortunately, there are quite a few of them.

Let's start with coffee

This is the third year we have visited Finland. This time we focused on discovering the local nature, which - as always - never ceases to amaze us. Every year we try to visit national parks with different natural features. This year, one of our destinations was Salamajärvi Park and the surrounding nature trails, where we explored the picturesque wetlands.

Wetlands are not only a diverse and picturesque environment, but also a key element of the biosphere. They act as natural water filters and regulators of climate and water flow. Many have been drained in recent decades, but this trend is reversing in many countries and there is a growing awareness of the need to protect them.
Why protect wetlands?

The carbon stored in peat comes from plants that absorb carbon dioxide. This process permanently removes CO₂ from the atmosphere, helping to combat global warming. In addition, wetlands support the so-called small hydrological cycle - evaporation from these areas helps to counteract local droughts.

Interestingly, peatlands cover only 3 per cent of the world's land area and store twice as much carbon as forests. Unfortunately, drained peatlands become a source of CO₂ emissions, which have a negative impact on the climate. Fortunately, restoration efforts are underway in many regions, although full recovery of ecosystem functions will take time.
