The world frayed as God forgot his name, as if that omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent being could misplace himself as one would a pen in perfectly working order. Ah, how I loved my pen, fully filled with dark ink blotting and remaking language anew. Nevertheless, God wanted to be rid of his memory, he wanted to deliberately erase any and all responsibility for whatever sin and beauty he had created. And I could see the world rot, I could see rivers forgetting their way home, I could see distant stars flickering and fading like sentences half finished, and most of all I could see the tongue that named and defined these things grow pale, tired of its own labor.
Those ignoble, decrepit bastards swore to be keepers of our language, they swore to keep the flame of knowledge alive, they swore to stave off the corruption of this world, and yet they failed. Yes, our would-be saviors were naught but crows feasting upon the dead and forgotten corpse of our language, our God.
Within my dreams, I alone exist for I alone still dream of full sentences, arrogant in their sublimity. I alone see a myriad of words, pulsing through the veins of creation like blood. And with this, I rejoice, for I am now a God amongst men. And with this, I mourn, for I am a stupid, frail, foolish man with but a few brief years left for me to live. Exalted, I sigh and grasp my pen bleeding ink with my bony hands as I write this document:
Herein lies the chronicle of the linguist, shepherd to the stars in the dark. The world may be sundered, yet I shall try, like the linguists of old, to recreate the world once more. I shall become God and I shall reforge the world anew.
