Repost: After receiving a $480 electric bill in July (for June air conditioning), I began progressively purchasing that silver back/white front 3/4" insulation board at Sutherlands for $20. 99 a sheet and cutting them to fit the windows. That knocked my electric bill back to $303 for July (received in August) and $224 for August (received in Sept) by insulating the windows and patio doors of the house.
Each sheet is 4 x 8 feet.
It has taken me until today to purchase, cut and temporarily install these foam boards in the windows and doors. Even with only 2/3rds of the windows done, I noticed a difference in the heater rarely coming on. With temps like we've had recently at night, it used to stay on just about all the time.
I'm going to leave mine up on too hot or too cold days and take them down when not needed.
Just an idea to help keep your heating and cooling bills down. As you can see, it did work on the electric bill last summer and that was with only half of them done.
