What is OMEGAVERSE?

Ever heard of Omegaverse in BL mangas? It's like a whole new universe within the stories. Here's the deal:

In these stories, society is split into three groups: alphas, betas, and omegas.

Alphas are like the top dogs. They're strong, smart, and, well, alpha, but not in a jerky way.

Omegas are rare and often seen as weaker because they can give birth. But they're not just damsels in distress - they're more than that.

And then there are betas. They're kind of in the middle, just regular folks who can't emit pheromones or go into heat like alphas and omegas do.

Yep, you heard that right. In Omegaverse, alphas and omegas can release these chemicals called pheromones to attract each other. It's like nature's love potion, but sometimes it's not so romantic.

And get this, there are heats and ruts too. It's like their mating seasons. Things can get pretty intense during those times.

But here's the twist: depending on the story, things can flip around. Sometimes omegas are in charge, or there are even more wild details like "marking" and "knotting" - but let's keep it simple for now.

You might also stumble upon this concept in fanfiction, usually tagged with "ABO" or "Alpha, Beta, Omega". It's a bit different there, sometimes more focused on wolf pack dynamics.

So, it's a mixed bag. Some stories dive deep into the animalistic side, while others keep it more human-centric. It all depends on the author and what floats your boat.

The differences between Boys' Love (BL), Shonen-Ai, and Yaoi:

Boys' Love (BL):

- Boys' Love, often abbreviated as BL, refers to fictional media, such as anime or manga, centered around romantic relationships between male characters.
- BL stories can vary widely in tone and genre, blending romance with other themes like drama, comedy, or fantasy.
- Common features of BL include exaggerated portrayals of gay romance, with themes like dominant and submissive roles, jealousy, and possessiveness.
- While some BL works may contain unhealthy depictions, not all do, and the genre has evolved over time to include more diverse stories.
- BL has become a mainstream term for the genre, both in Japan and internationally, though confusion with other terms still exists.

Yaoi:

- Yaoi originated as a term in Japan in the late 1970s and '80s, primarily referring to fan-published works (doujinshi) based on existing franchises.
- The acronym "Yaoi" stands for "Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi," which humorously implies a lack of plot and focus solely on sexual content.
- Yaoi can also humorously mean "Yamete, oshiri ga inai," translating to "Stop it, my butt hurts."
- Yaoi works often prioritize sexual content over narrative, though this isn't universally true for all works labeled as Yaoi.

Shonen-Ai:

- Shonen-Ai is the direct translation of Boys' Love in Japanese.
- Historically, in Japan, Shonen-Ai referred to a literary subgenre involving romantic or sexual relationships between adolescent males or between a boy and an adult man.
- In the 1970s, the term began to be used to describe romantic relationships between male characters in manga or anime, particularly those with effeminate or androgynous traits, regardless of their age.

So, in summary, while Boys' Love encompasses a wide range of male/male romance stories, Yaoi often emphasizes sexual content, and Shonen-Ai historically focused on romantic relationships between male characters, regardless of age or explicit content.

Manga:

Manga refers to Japanese comics or graphic novels.
It's typically read from right to left, top to bottom, following the traditional Japanese reading direction.
Manga covers a wide range of genres and styles, catering to diverse audiences of all ages.
Japan has a rich manga culture with a long history, and manga artists (mangaka) often enjoy celebrity status.
Manhwa:

Manhwa is the Korean equivalent of manga.
Like manga, it encompasses various genres and styles, including action, romance, fantasy, and more.
Manhwa is read from left to right, top to bottom, following the Western reading direction.
South Korea has a thriving manhwa industry, and many manhwa series are serialized online before being published in print.
Manhua:

Manhua is the Chinese counterpart of manga.
It also covers a wide range of genres, drawing inspiration from Chinese culture, history, and mythology.
Manhua is typically read from left to right, top to bottom, following the Western reading direction.
China has a long history of illustrated storytelling, and modern manhua has evolved to include both traditional and contemporary themes.
In summary, while manga, manhwa, and manhua all refer to comic books or graphic novels, they originate from different countries (Japan, South Korea, and China, respectively) and may have distinct artistic styles, storytelling techniques, and cultural influences.

Type | Origin | Color | How to Read | Format
--------------------------|------------------------|-------------------------------------------|------------------------|------------------
