At 4PM today a piece of me died

June 3, 2019, I was on my lunch break when I saw a dirty dog sitting in a ditch. I opened my car door and he jumped right in. From that moment on, we were stuck together like glue. He was the dog I picked up in my 20s, when I wasn’t really in a place to have a dog. I snuck him into my mom’s house and just hoped she wouldn’t say anything. We 100 percent were bound together in another life and naturally found each other again in this one.

Today, cancer cut our time short. I had plans, plans of him with the new baby, plans for a new home with a large sunroom he could enjoy. Now I’ll just hold the memories we did make close and accept that this was the time we were given together. He was the best dog anyone could have ever dreamed of, and I’m so lucky we found our way to each other in this life. I feel so sorry for people who say “it’s just a dog”. To experience a bond like this is to truly experience the meaning of life.

Rest in peace, my sweet River. I can’t wait to see you again.

A frozen puppy was found today…
We received a report and immediately rescued him. He lay in a village almost without strength, his tiny body frozen by the cold.
Now he can stand only on his front legs. His condition is critical.
Tomorrow we go to the vet.

Minutes after arriving at The Hug, his body was still shaking. Two days in the freezing cold, running from firecrackers, terrified by gunshots. Fear had taken over—but not his spirit. Now he’s warm, safe, and finally resting. 💔
