Welcome to HaleOnATrail!
This is a channel where we, Colton & Olivia Hale, two married millennials share our adventures of full time RV living, travel nursing, national park exploration and much more! Our goal with this channel is to showcase a more authentic and every day glimpse into our life outside of the "trendy" set up of other social media platforms.
We hope to create a space to cultivate genuine online friendships and help others see the country through our love of travel and hiking.

Healing doesn't mean you'll never be triggered again 🧠✨
#mentalhealthmonday
When I first started therapy, I totally didn't grasp this concept. I thought since I was doing something to help myself (that I considered radical at the time), I was guaranteed to be "fixed."
I thought this again when I started medication.
Trying to avoid my triggers back then was another way I tried to have control. When I think about it now, I see it as a waste of energy because:
We ultimately have no control over what others say/do
-and-
Avoiding certain internal thoughts/actions is exhausting and they'll likely come out when we're under stress.
Instead, we should focus on how to *manage our reactions* to our triggers.
Learning to PAUSE to identify what COGNITIVE DISTORTION is happening in response to a trigger has been huge for me. Cognitive distortions aka Automatic Negative Thoughts (ANTs) has been a game changer for me.
I highly recommend looking into them if you struggle with anxious thoughts.
A few big ones for me are:
🧠" Emotional Reasoning"- False belief that your emotions are truth
🧠 "All or Nothing"- thinking in extremes without considering all possible facts.
🧠 "Overgeneralization"- reaching a conclusion about 1 event & incorrectly applying that outcome to everything.
I hope this helps. I know for me, sometimes my own brain is my biggest hurdle 🫶🏻
