Potato Scab is caused by Streptomyces scabies, a soil-borne pathogen favoured by high soil pH, low organic matter, and dry conditions.

This carousel covers pathogen biology, symptoms, infection cycle, conducive soil factors, and complete Integrated Disease Management including pH correction, crop rotation, resistant varieties, and sulphur-based control.

Beneficial microbes such as Trichoderma viride, Pseudomonas fluorescens, and Bacillus spp. play a major role in suppressing scab. They compete with the pathogen in the rhizosphere, produce antifungal metabolites, improve soil structure, and enhance tuber immunity, helping reduce disease severity naturally.
