Okay, don't get mad, but I started another side project. It's a 2D sidescrolling bullet heaven (think Vampire Survivors or Mega Bonk) which I'm hoping will teach me some things about optimisation and other gamedev stuff I haven't a lot of experience in. The game will feature ersatz versions of 2D platformer heroes as playable characters.



Anyhoo, I was hoping some of y'all could help me out by taking a guess at what the symbols I posted mean, preferably before reading other comments. They're going to be used as upgradable stat increase items (like Tomes in Mega Bonk). Each item will be able to upgrade multiple related stats, fyi. Thanks to those who take their guesses.

A Koopa's Revenge 2 v2.9.0.3 is here!

What does that mean? Not a whole lot unless you're a speedrunner. But if you are speedrunner, you should know the game now features an in-game timer (IGT). To activate the timer simply enter the code "speedrun" or "speedruns" into the save import screen. Magenta text that says "Timer On" should appear if you did it right. The timer starts on transition to the game, and there are other changes like not starting a new game in the Crashed Airship level and faster transitions, so it has its own version on speedrun.com: www.speedrun.com/akr2?h=Any-2-9-igt-no-cheats&x=rk…

If you're not a speedrunner, you can enjoy some small optimisations and a big link to my Discord server in the main menu. I also provide to you some AKR2 phone wallpapers as a consolation prize.

YES, I'M STILL ALIVE 2024 EDITION

As some of you may have noticed, I have not posted or replied to anything online in a while. Long story short, my mental health took a pretty big hit about a year ago, and I ended up taking 11 months off the internet altogether. I didn’t even tend to the Discord server. I wasn’t doing too well before that either, having not worked on anything substantial in over a year. My issues are mostly related to anxiety, insomnia, and ADHD. I might go into further detail about this later, but it’s kinda private. I will say that I am seeing a psychiatrist and a counselor, and I have been getting better over the course of the past year.

I’m still no where near being able to put my all into gamedev (or any of my other creative pursuits) so you likely won’t see much from me in the near future. I need to put my mental health first. I know it sucks that A Koopa’s Revenge Gold, AKR2 v2.9.1, and the other projects still aren’t out, but forcing myself to make them would only cause me to burn out and delay things even further. Trust me, it’s happened many times in the past. I’m going to eventually respond to all the YouTube comments, Newgrounds reviews, and other stuff I missed over the past couple years, but I’ll be doing it at my own pace. I’ve learned the hard why that forcing myself to do even the smallest stuff can be bad for me.

One positive aspect of being off social media for a year is that I mostly missed Twitter going to shit. And because it’s such shit, I’ve decided to quit and sign up for Bluesky instead. So you can follow me on Bluesky (lambta.co/bluesky) or join the Lambtaco Discord (lambta.co/discord) to catch all the little updates I make and chat with me or whatever. An example of a little update: In the future (version 2.9.2 probably) I’ll be adding the option to change the mid level and end level (after you beat the level) flags in A Koopa’s Revenge 2. It’s a small thing, but I think people will appreciate it. And it’s something I’m capable of working on in my current state.

Would any of you really mind if I replaced the Hall of Music (Crashed Airship) in AKR2? I'm thinking of replacing it with another sort of room. Maybe a place to learn some lore or get some helpful tips.

Edit: I would likely keep the functionality of the room, but condensed into a menu, rather than a sprawling mostly empty room like it is now.

Oh snap! Lambtaco Games has finally made it to 30 000 subscribers. That means I get to do the big 30K Q&A Stream I promised almost a year ago. That should happen in about two weeks. I need time to collect all the questions and make a fancy overlay to display them.

In the mean time, I will be accepting more questions on this post, and on the old video announcing the stream. I'm going to say the question submission period officially ends... in a week? Yeah, that sounds good. If you want me to answer your question on stream, ask it on this post some time in the next week.

I'm also doing a smaller unrelated stream tomorrow about the A Koopa's Revenge Iceberg. In that stream I'll also be showing off the work in progress build for AKR2 v2.9.1, and I'll probably do an open question period at the end.

Twitch streams are a coming. First up is two SNES games: The Peace Keepers, and Kirby's Dreamland 3. I'll be playing couch co-op with my friend, Ben, who you may recognise from my other channel.

The stream will be at 4:00 UTC on the 13th of October, which is 9pm Tuesday on the West coast, and midnight on the East coast. Sorry if the time is inconvenient, but it's hard to get two adults free at the same time. There's always the VoD if you're so inclined. Speaking of VoDs, depending on how this streaming thing goes, I may start uploading the streams to Youtube. Probably under a separate channel, maybe called Lambtaco Plays or something like that.
