I think my better half was expecting a normal A24 movie. Instead, Adam Wingard gave him an 80s grindhouse fever dream about an ex-military mom in a trailer park fighting off Frankenstein super-soldiers who look like they got lost on their way to a heavy metal concert.Oh, and Dan Stevens is running around in a bald cap with a glass eye. For the uninitiated, Wildling is a movie that begins as a claustrop into the woods for hobic psychological thriller about a young girl locked in a room by a man she calls "Daddy," only to abruptly pivot into a teenage high school romance, before finally crashing headfirst into a full-on, raw-meat-munching creature feature. Talk about tonal whiplash.
But let’s be entirely honest with ourselves: the real reason we need to unpack this film is the presence of the legendary Brad Dourif. The man has built a multi-decade, iconic career out of looking like he hasn't slept since 1975 and playing characters who are statistically 99.9% likely to be hiding something illegal under their floorboards. In Wildling, he plays "Daddy"—a man who decides the best way to handle a child's awkward puberty phase isn't a conversation about the birds and the bees, but rather a healthy regimen of pharmaceutical suppression and electrified doorknobs. It’s peak Dourif. If you asked him to play a well-adjusted, suburban accountant who enjoys scrapbooking, he’d still manage to make checking a balance sheet look like a ritualistic sacrifice. God, this one hurts. For cinephiles and theater kids alike, Tim Curry wasn't just an actor—he was an absolute legend.The sound of his voice alone could put a smile on your face. On stage and screen, he brought an unmatched flair, wit, and joy to everything he touched. As the incomparable Dr. Frank-N-Furter, he taught generations how to not only accept the unconventional, but to fully embrace it. He gave us a lifetime of unforgettable performances and a masterclass in theatrical brilliance.For me personally, he was one of those rare actors who completely shaped my love for cinema. And honestly? His performance as Wadsworth in Clue made it physically impossible for me to ever do a simple math problem again ("One plus two plus two plus one..."). You know what? I’m a better person for it.The world has lost a truly singular talent. There will never be another like him.

Alright, my beloved boos and ghouls out there in YouTube Land! Listen, I don’t know if anyone actually requested this, or if anyone even cares, but my hyper-fixation won this week. Welcome to my personal episode of Goth Martha Stewart. I looked at my boring, Plain Jane, absolutely soulless bedside lamp and thought, "This does not match my internal darkness." So, I decided to manifest the ultimate, budget-friendly horror-girlie dream lamp. Step one: I found this gorgeous pink skull. Because yes, I am a horror girlie, but I am a feminine horror girlie. Naturally, I took power tools to it. I drilled a hole straight into its head—very therapeutic, highly recommend—and ran the cord through. Next, it needed plasma. But since we are on a budget and I don't want real biohazards in my bedroom, I used sticky window clings. Boom. Instant crime scene, zero cleanup. Then we had the lamp shade. It was giving "corporate office waiting room." Disgusting. So I wrapped it in some beautiful, dramatic black fabric and glued miniature skulls all over it. Because if a DIY doesn't involve hot glue burns and tiny bones, did you even really craft? But wait, there's more! The lamp looked too good for my basic nightstand. So, I went full manic-crafter mode. I bought some gorgeous skull-and-roses wallpaper on Amazon and decoupaged the living daylights out of that table. To finish the ritual, I ripped off the old drawer handle and replaced it with a matching skull handle—also from Jeff Bezos' spooky warehouse. And honestly? i love it oh and in case you guys can't guess Jen really Love's Skulls.
