Man dies after entering tiger enclosure at UK wildlife park, police say

London, October 10, 2026 — A man has died after suffering serious injuries when he entered into a tiger enclosure at a UK wildlife park, South Yorkshire Police said.

A police statement said: “At 1.35pm today (Saturday 10 October) we received reports of a man entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.”

“Emergency services attended and sadly, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene,” police said.
The tiger was uninjured in the incident, the police said.

The police added that the man’s family is aware and is being supported by specialist officers. “Our thoughts are with them at this distressing time.”

The park was evacuated following the incident. The tiger remained in the enclosure following the attack, and there is no wider risk posed to the public, according to authorities.

The police spokesperson added that people are being encouraged not to share “distressing” footage circulating online of the man being mauled by the tiger. — CNN

Ethiopian forces regain control of border city after reported Eritrean incursion

Addis Ababa, October 10, 2026 — Ethiopian government forces and their militia allies entered Adigrat, near the border with Horn of Africa neighbour Eritrea, on Saturday, three residents said, days after Eritrean troops were pushed back from ‌the strategic city.

The incursion by Eritrean troops, which Eritrea has denied and Reuters could not independently verify, has raised fears of a return to all-out war along Ethiopia's northern border where the two nations have clashed before. Conflicts elsewhere in the region and tensions across the Red Sea have further raised the stakes.

Three Adigrat residents told Reuters they had seen the Ethiopian army and an allied militia in the city on Saturday morning, with one of the residents saying they saw soldiers on patrol along ⁠with military vehicles.

Reuters could not confirm whether the army was in control of Adigrat, which is located 30 km (19 miles) from the border with Eritrea. Ethiopia's military did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and city officials were not reachable on Saturday.

The celebrations also marked the launch of cocoa farming in Kenya, with cocoa seedlings distributed to farmers. The initiative aims to promote tree-based farming that supports environmental conservation while creating additional income opportunities for farmers.

In a further effort to accelerate forest restoration, the government unveiled aerial seeding technology to complement conventional tree-planting activities.

The event also featured the launch of the Mt. Elgon Integrated Conservation and Livelihood Improvement Programme Strategic Plan 2026–2036. The programme aims to restore degraded forests, protect water resources, and improve the livelihoods of communities living around Mt. Elgon.

The initiatives form part of Kenya’s broader efforts to strengthen environmental sustainability, restore forest ecosystems, address climate change, and promote community-based livelihoods.

Addis Ababa — October 10, 2026 — The U.S. Embassy in Asmara has issued a security alert warning American citizens in Eritrea to exercise increased caution amid continued fighting in northern Ethiopia near the Eritrean border.


According to the alert, U.S. citizens face potential risks associated with travel restrictions, landmines, wrongful detention, and limited consular assistance.


The embassy also warned dual U.S.-Eritrean citizens that Eritrea does not recognize dual citizenship and may treat them exclusively as Eritrean citizens.


As a result, they could face tax obligations, restrictions on leaving the country, and mandatory national service requirements. The embassy cautioned that its ability to assist dual nationals may be limited.


The alert further stated that U.S. Embassy staff are prohibited from traveling more than 25 kilometers (approximately 15 miles) from central Asmara, limiting the embassy’s capacity to provide assistance to American citizens outside the capital.


The embassy urged U.S. citizens to prepare evacuation plans that do not depend on U.S. government assistance, keep travel documents updated and readily accessible, carry identification and a valid U.S. passport with a current Eritrean visa, review personal safety plans, and monitor local news for further developments.


The embassy’s advisory underscores the importance of preparedness and caution for U.S. citizens residing in or traveling to Eritrea.

The construction team used digital simulations and precision surveying to ensure a safe and accurate lift, achieving a final positioning deviation of less than two millimeters.

Once completed, the stadium is expected to provide a major venue for sporting events and other large-scale gatherings in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia says it must defend itself against Eritrea's 'all-out invasion'

Addis Ababa, October 9, 2026 — Ethiopia said an "all-out invasion" by Eritrean forces had left it with no option but to defend itself, in a letter to the UN ‌shared with Reuters on Friday, as blasts continued near the border between the two countries.

In response, Eritrea's information minister said his country had shown restraint since Ethiopia had declared a war of aggression against Eritrea by stating in 2023 it would acquire sovereign access to the sea.

The countries traded accusations after a reported incursion by Eritrean troops this week raised fears of outright war in the region, where the two nations have fought previous conflicts. The stakes have been raised this time around by conflicts in the Horn of Africa region and tensions across the Red Sea.

Ethiopia lost its access to all coastline when Eritrea secured independence in ⁠1993. Addis Ababa argues that restoring sea access is an existential issue but has said it would be restored through peace and dialogue.

Ethiopia has accused Eritrea of supporting a rebel alliance in Ethiopia. Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos said in the letter that Eritrean forces had advanced up to 60 km (37 miles) into the country.

"The all-out invasion of parts of northern Ethiopia by Eritrea is a matter of public record,” the letter said. “It is a blatant act of aggression that engages Ethiopia’s inherent right to self-defence.”

The letter, dated Thursday, was addressed to French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot. The senior Ethiopian government official who shared the letter said it was also sent to the other members of the UN Security Council.

Drone strikes, believed to have been carried out by Ethiopia’s military, targeted ⁠Eritrean forces on Wednesday and Thursday as they withdrew from positions near the northern Tigray town of Adigrat, about 30 km (19 miles) from the border with Eritrea, the US-based conflict monitor ACLED said.

An Adigrat resident told Reuters on Friday that they had heard repeated explosions overnight and into the morning from several kilometres outside town.

Ethiopian government forces have continued to gain ground in ⁠Tigray in recent days and, in a sign of further consolidation, Ethiopian Airlines said it would resume flights to the regional capital Mekelle on October 11.

Eritrea has denied backing the rebel alliance that has been battling federal government troops since September 23 in the northern regions of Tigray, Amhara and Afar.

After years of war, Eritrea and Ethiopia made ⁠peace in a 2018 agreement that earned Abiy a Nobel Peace Prize. Eritrea fought in support of Ethiopia’s federal government during a 2020-2022 civil war in Tigray, but relations soured again toward the end of that conflict.

The fighting that broke out last month has been the biggest escalation of violence since the Tigray war, which caused hundreds of thousands of deaths. — Reuters

Addis Ababa, October 8, 2026 — Ethiopia Collects "Drone Royal Flush" From Five Countries, But russian Orion May Actually Be Homegrown Negash reports Defense Express.

Since beginning of this year, reports began appearing online that Ethiopia supposedly may have received russian Orion-E strike-reconnaissance drones in export version along with Yak-130 aircraft.

If Ethiopia indeed has russian Orion-Es in service, Ethiopian armed forces assembled entire drone royal flush, as they already have drones from china, Turkiye, iran and even their own in service.

Specifically these include: Turkish Akinci and Bayraktar TB2, iranian Mohajer-6 and chinese Wing Loong I, domestic Negash, and now possibly Orion-E. Interestingly, manufacturers of all these drones compete with each other on international arena.

However regarding Orion-E delivery to Ethiopia, certain confusion exists. Despite reports about transferring Orion-E drones appearing since January this year and periodically continuing, currently no visual confirmation of their presence in Ethiopia exists.

As proof Orion-E is already used in Ethiopia, footage is usually shown with drone externally resembling Orion-E. However if looking closely at details, it becomes clear this is not Orion-E but Ethiopian Negash, whose development program began in 2010 and was canceled approximately in 2015, but apparently not entirely.

Specifically, Negash has smaller dimensions, somewhat different fuselage shape, is equipped with keel, has wooden propeller instead of composite, and its electro-optical targeting station is positioned closer to nose section than on Orion-E.

Therefore currently impossible to definitively say whether Orion-E is operated in Ethiopia. But if this is indeed the case, Ethiopia will be only country besides russia itself that has these drones in service.

Recall russians are currently actively losing their weapons markets worldwide. Specifically they already lost Ethiopia in air defense sphere, when Ethiopia received chinese Pantsir clone FK-2000, although previously had actual Pantsirs.

Getachew Reda Criticizes TPLF Leadership and Its Alliance With Isaias Afwerki

Addis Ababa, October 7, 2026 — Former Chief Administrator of the Interim Regional Administration of Tigray Getachew Reda has sharply criticized what he described as the TPLF leadership’s repeated miscalculations and its alliance with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki.

In a social media post, Getachew said, “Taking calculated risk has never been the strong suit of the rump TPLF’s leadership,” arguing that this had been demonstrated by what he called its “recent disastrous miscalculation.”

He said the situation was made even more serious by the TPLF leadership’s alliance with Isaias Afwerki, whom he described as “the father of disastrous miscalculations.” Getachew also referred to what he called the miscalculations of the other junior partners involved in the alliance.

According to Getachew, the TPLF leadership and President Isaias have demonstrated a “tremendous capacity to bring down with them all those who have the stupidity to count on their wisdom, and to absolute oblivion.”

He further said history appeared to have delivered “a rather cruel verdict on President Isaias’ penchant for geopolitical gamble.”

Getachew described the alliance between Isaias and the TPLF—once considered enemies—as “the most cruel of ironies,” arguing that the partnership could ultimately contribute to the downfall of what he called “the Grand fool in Asmara.”
