We explore the ocean, seeking out new discoveries while pushing the boundaries of technological innovation, education, and outreach. Founded in 2007 by Titanic discoverer Dr. Robert Ballard, Ocean Exploration Trust's international expeditions launched from aboard Exploration Vessel Nautilus center scientific exploration of the seafloor, collaborating with the broad scientific and local communities, and engaging curious minds worldwide via interactive live streaming deep sea exploration and education programs.

We've set sail on the NA174 expedition to explore #deepsea habitats throughout the #RepublicoftheMarshallIslands (#RMI) in collaboration and consultation with the Marshall Islands Marine Resources Authority and other partners. The Republic of the #MarshallIslands consists of over 1,200 islands that are surrounded by 2.13 million square kilometers of ocean, the vast majority of which have never been mapped or surveyed. In the months leading up to the expedition, OET worked with the science and resource management community to refine mission priorities. Learn more in our #blog: bit.ly/4l0FOdM
Funded by NOAA Ocean Exploration via the Ocean Exploration Cooperative Institute, this expedition will map and explore poorly known deep-sea habitats to support science and management priority needs in RMI and engage students and the public in telepresence-based exploration.

Beneath the waves of #IronBottomSound, where echoes of #WWII naval clashes still linger, #EVNautilus livestreamed a journey into history—and families of fallen servicemen were watching, riveted. In this #blog, we highlight some of the memorials and stories shared with the expedition team from viewers and loved ones of service members who were part of the #SecondWorldWar on different national home fronts and across the Pacific: bit.ly/4m6VjBV

“Iron Bottom Sound was the scene of five ferocious major night surface battles resulting in the loss of dozens of ships and thousands of men. Both sides fought was extreme courage and tenacity, although in the end the U.S. Navy and allies prevailed, at enormous cost,” said Naval History & Heritage Command Director Samuel J. Cox, U.S. Navy rear admiral (retired). “These wrecks represent the last resting place of sailors who gave the last full measure of devotion in the service of their country. This expedition is an opportunity to remember the valor and sacrifice of those who turned the tide of war in favor of freedom, especially those who never returned home.”

The #CorpsofExploration and #EVNautilus are officially in shakedown! #Shakedown is a pre-season period to test all the technology and equipment on the ship and prepare it for the year ahead; think about it like a dress rehearsal for the expedition season! Beginning with weeks in port mobilizing, then sailing on a short expedition, our maritime crew, ROV, mapping, video, and data teams work together to test our systems.
