As another year turns,

A man loved his dog.
Love, when true, does not calculate.
He asked religion for honor.
Religion asked for labels.
Churches refused.
Rules spoke louder than compassion.
And then Mulla Nasruddin asked quietly:
Was the dog Muslim?
Was it religious?
Was it… a dog?
