Cambodia ๐ฐ๐ญ
Our first day in Cambodia was pretty shit- our camera was stolen by two men on a motorbike in the space of about 10 seconds๐๐, a quick bag snatch and boom our beloved camera was gone.
Shock, sadness and shame is the words to describe how we felt. How could it be? We had only been in the country for less than 24 hours and it felt like our whole attitude to travelling had gone south. โฌ๏ธ
A day later, after a whirlwind of emotions we left Phnom Penh and decided to travel to Siem Reap. We both felt anxious to do this and I (Helenna) wanted to leave Cambodia altogether. BUT my attitude completely changed.
The city Siem Reap is completely beautiful, filled with temples, night markets but most importantly friendly, caring & generous people! Straight away our AirBnB host wanted to help in anyway he could - making us feel super safe.๐
After learning about the horrendous actions that happened here in the late 70โs we were both completely overwhelmed by the peoples attitude towards life. The country had literally experienced hell, but the people were still so positive and kind. ๐
I suppose the main reason Iโm writing this post is to find comfort knowing that our camera being stolen taught us to be more aware when walking around, because petty crime can happen anywhere ๐ฌ. BUT most importantly to not judge a country by one action.
Cambodia is incredible and we would definitely recommend anyone to visit. It is a little bit behind compared to other South East Asian countries, but itโs culture and beauty overrides this!
