💡 Quick Xero tip

Adding a bank account in Xero and activating the bank feed are two separate steps.
You can have a bank account created in Xero even if the bank feed is not active yet.

Once the feed is active, transactions will start flowing in automatically and you are ready to reconcile.

One thing I have noticed over the years is that missing bank transactions cause more stress than they should.
Most of the time, it is just a feed issue or setup delay. So patience is the keyword to avoid stress and duplicate transactions.

And if the transactions are really missed from the bank feed, it's really easy to import the missing statements.

If you have not watched it yet, my video How to import bank statements into Xero walks through exactly when manual imports make sense and how to do them safely.

Here is a quick time-saving tip from my latest video that you can use in Xero today!

Did you know you can use simple "shortcuts" in the due date field? Instead of clicking through the calendar, try these:

Type +7 and hit tab to set the due date for one week away.

Type +14 for two weeks.

Type +0 if the invoice is due immediately.

It is a tiny habit, but it makes your weekly bookkeeping feel much smoother and faster.

Oh .. and this works for both invoices and bills.

Have you tried using any keyboard shortcuts in Xero yet?

Hey, my friends,

I quickly wanted to reflect on this week's video:

Invoice reminders are not about being pushy. They are about being consistent.

The best things (and why you should set up in not already)
a) you can send reminders before an invoice is due, not just when it is overdue
b) the email includes a payment link so customers can pay straight away

Let me know your experience with the automatic invoice reminders.

Hey, my friends,

I'm still uncertain about the role AI will play in bookkeeping/accounting in the short term.

While AI typically manages basic Xero transactions and theoretical bookkeeping effectively, it struggles - in my opinion - with the complex transactions and the nuanced, non-standard, business-specific cases.

What I do know is that we must stay updated with technological advancements and be willing to experiment with them.

In what areas of bookkeeping and accounting do you use AI? Are there certain tasks where it has made a noticeable difference?
