The Jam Station is about enjoying guitar education; teaching guitar creatively and with DEPTH. We're not afraid of using music theory to accelerate your learning process and encourage creativity by producing original music including guitar solos and professional backing tracks for guitarists, bassists and drummers. Subscribe for the latest content and comment on ANY of our videos with questions. We love to hear from you.

The Jam Station is the project of pro musicians and best friends Arron Storey and Ryan Lemmon. Most of what you see on screen is Arron and much of the behind the scenes work is Ryan. But both have over 20 years experience in the music industry so all ideas and production are a team effort as we connect with guitarists and musicians online.

Guitarists - we've done singers and keyboard players... now which DRUMMER would you include in your dream Rock band, to support your smoking Rock guitar licks onstage?! If not one of these four legends, who should we have included? Let us know in the comments!

Guitar legend Ritchie Blackmore turned 80 years old today! What's your favourite Blackmore solo? Leave it in the comments.

Ritchie has developed a reputation for being one Rock's moodiest and most mysterious characters - something he probably finds quite funny. Whether it's all an act or not, few could debate the fact that he is a true heavyweight guitarist. With his dramatic riffs, passionate solos and impressive stage presence - he was technically way above 99% of his peers. Both Deep Purple and Rainbow have provided us with tons of memorable moments so for for that alone, we wish him a Happy Birthday. Why not celebrate by checking out our Blackmore inspired Dorian tutorial from a few months ago.

My 'Top 10' Favourite guitar albums

10. Rainbow -Rising

Dio’s vocals and Powell’s drumming were thunderous but rising above it all were Blackmore’s dramatic and skillful solos & riffs.
Highlight: Stargazer

9. Steve Vai -Passion & Warfare

I rarely listen to instrumental rock these days I can’t overestimate what an important album this was to me as a teenage guitarist. It was wild then and seems no less exciting and imaginative now! Worth a listen to see where guitar can go.
Highlight: Sisters

8. Tommy Bolin -Teaser

A gem from an underrated master. There are few debut albums better than this and it’s difficult to imagine how far Bolin could’ve gone had he not died so young. Funk, Rock, Fusion, Ballads; it has it all and follow up Private Eyes is also worth your attention.
Highlight: Savannah Woman

7. Queen

Their 1973 debut is my favourite Queen album. The harmonies and bold arrangements are already in place but the riffs rock harder than you’d imagine from Queen and there’s not a weak track on the album.
Highlight: My Fairy King

6. Jimi Hendrix -Axis:Bold As Love

Arguably the best album of his back catalogue; the guitar playing is as good as Are You Experienced? but the writing is a level above. And with classics such as Little Wing and Castles Made of Sand among the lesser-known tracks, I’d recommend any guitarist check this out.
Highlight: Bold as Love

5. Mike Stern -Voices

A niche choice but Stern’s rock-fused Jazz licks nestle beautifully amongst lush vocal arrangements and the production is great. It’s an original and fresh sound featuring stellar performances from an all-star line-up and I regularly return to this album for inspiration.
Highlight: Spirit

4. Jeff Beck -Blow by Blow

I could’ve chosen any Beck album but this 1975 classic had the biggest influence on me as a young guitarist. Beck was one of the first Rock players to tackle Fusion and many of these tracks feature jazzy leads and cool funk grooves. There are 2 songs written by Stevie Wonder and a Beatles cover but thanks to George Martin’s production it all holds together well.
Highlight: Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers

3. Deep Purple -In Rock

Heavyweight Blackmore is the only guy to appear in this list twice but I could’ve included Machine Head as well! His ferocious playing was way ahead of its time in 1970 and as a pro musician of over 20 years, it’s painful to think just how young these guys were when they crafted this masterpiece. Not a weak song but Child in Time sits above anything from the period in terms of power, passion & intensity.
Highlight: Child in Time

2. Pink Floyd -Animals

I considered a number of Floyd albums but this monster contains arguably Gilmour’s finest guitar playing and Waters’ best lyrics, it was an easy choice. 3 of the 5 songs are abnormally long but it never gets boring thanks to the exquisite production and arrangements. There are 3 Floyd albums which always get more mainstream attention but Animals is, for me, where they peaked musically.
Highlight: Dogs

1. Led Zeppelin -Physical Graffiti

The only double album and not a weak song on it! Non-stop classics and Jimmy Page is a bottomless pit of muscular riffs, solos & songwriting. The genres shift but even the lesser-known songs are of high quality and discovering this record was a huge moment for me as a teenager. Choosing a favourite song on this album is tough and Zep never again reached the heights of this 1975 masterpiece.
Highlight: Kashmir
