Hey Everyone, giving you guys a little update, Remy was born 11/28 - 8lb 7oz. It's been a bit busy over here with the new little guy. He is currently in the ICU under observation for a few days, he needed a bit of help with a potential infection. Send the little guy some good vibes, we look forward to bringing him home in the next few days.

I may not get a video out this week if you could please consider shopping through my Amazon link if your already going to be there, it helps out and is always appreciated.

I am releasing a video this Saturday morning about what I feel can be ignored in 2025 as a beginner in audio. The goal of this video is for it to be a collective of thoughts from people new and experienced in the hobby sharing their thoughts and opinions on what matters and what doesn't. Keep an eye out for it!

I want to start posting more often in the community tab, but I want to keep things useful. Let's start with 10 days of Audiophile tips.

Day #3 Don't shop the latest trend, shop for what you actually need.

We are constantly being fed "the next best thing" and while it does make sense to a point that technology and the designs around it will contently improve it doesn't mean you should act on ALL of it. Really sit back and think about the weak link in your system. Where do you think you will find the most enjoyment through updates?
A few simple examples:

You possibly have went without a sub for years and have interest in extending the frequency range further down to aid your bookshelf speakers. I would say money well spent in this case, its a simple improvement that can bring a large impact.

Another option might be an addition to the system rather than update. You could get back into CD playback or start listening to vinyl or possibly start streaming if you haven't taken that step yet. Side bonus: this one opens you up to more gear to play around with.

You bought the latest and greatest DAC last year and now your shopping it again this year. This one is likely chasing your tail and you might find bigger improvements elsewhere.

Remember we are all in this for enjoyment, if chasing the latest and greatest DAC brings you joy, absolutely go for it. I am just sharing my thoughts and opinions about finding the right system for you, find the pieces you enjoy and play with the others till you find a synergy that sticks.

Day #2 Place your speakers properly before committing to buying something new. If your ready to move onto a new set of speakers by all means go for it, it's a lot of fun to research and find the proper fit and sound. I just want to lightly touch on placement in the cases where you may be able to get exactly what you want without an additional purchase.

If speakers are not in the proper location for your individual space they wont perform as advertised plain and simple. I am not asking you to pull your speakers out 6 feet into the room but attempt to find the compromise that suites your tastes. A few notables to play around with and product I use linked below (Affiliate link):

- Try to have give yourself some space between the speakers and the outside boundary walls, if the spacing can be even, thats the target. These types of placements generally affect the bass, corner loaded speakers can overload the room in some cases so its just something to be aware of.

-Look into the equilateral triangle, Ron at ‪@Newrecordday‬ has some excellent in depth resources for placement and ideas.

-Play around with angles, certain speakers benefit from a toe in or a toe out. This is where it gets very subjective and depends on your listening preferences. The degree of toe can affect tonal balance, soundstage width and the image focus greatly.

- Use tools to simplify the process, I use this laser tape measure all the time when setting up new speakers to dial in the distances between myself and the speakers. amzn.to/4gCWTZW

I want to start posting more often in the community tab, but I want to keep things useful. Let's start with 10 days of Audiophile tips.

#1 Don't always trust the review (Duh). Sounds pretty weird coming from someone who reviews right? Ask yourself a few questions before buying into a product review. Do you know the reviewers preferences? Do you know the characteristics of the rest of the equipment used during testing? Do you know how their room sounds? A lot of things in play here...

It's likely you know none of the above or very little unless your a long time viewer but something you can do after watching a number of reviews is to get to know their preferences. Pay attention to their likes and dislikes, are they droning on about midrange or searching for endless highs or possibly everything is terrible unless it shakes the flooring. This goes for the highly objective reviews as well, most of them tend to key in on certain specifics within the data. Once you learn some of their likes and dislikes it can make the reviews a lot more personal to you. Keep in mind MOST reviewers do want to give you an accurate review but you need to play your part as well to get the most out of it.

Final thoughts: Just watching for entertainment or viewing new products is perfectly fine as well. I find myself watching videos for products that I will never purchase all the time. My only ask is be interactive in the community, don't be a jerk and enjoy your time on this rock.
