I am looking for anyone with game dev (and preferably programming) experience to help work on an open-source video game.
The game is a 2D top-down twin-stick shooter inspired by SaltyClaire's Bio-Breaker. The object of the game, much like Splatoon, centers around creating as much traversable turf for your team as humanly possible using a variety of weapons inspired by various types of Nerf Blasters and water guns. There will also be a focus on player expression through a variety of fashion, aesthetic and gender identity choices. Of course, I look forward to adding a new twist to Splatoon's formula as a way of not only standing out but to avoid any potential legal troubles from Nintendo.
The reason I'm making this project is straightforward: the day will come when the Splatoon 2 and 3 servers will shut down, and any and all fan-efforts to restore the servers will inevitably be met with a cease-and-desist letter from the often-litigious, and highly corrupt Nintendo, with the fans likely having little to no recourse. And personally, I don't trust Nintendo will stop killing games, nor have the willpower or interest to preserve Splatoon's legacy on gaming and pop culture. The solution in my eyes, is to preserve the essence of Splatoon through this original game; its open-source nature allowing the community to contribute their creative input without fear of censorship from Nintendo, guaranteeing that Splatoon's creative twist on the shooter genre persists for generations to come.
