Looming sit-in, hunger strike and legal action force release of Kevin Annett

After nearly twenty four hours confinement in a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility, Kevin Annett was released today. 

At 7:25 am local time, Kevin was escorted from the facility by an RCMP officer and met by Josef R., Kevin's bodyguard, and a handful of supporters who had gathered at the airport to stage a sit-in protest demanding his release. 

As well, Kevin had commenced a hunger strike during the night; and a writ of Habeas Corpus from the International Common Law Court of Justice was delivered to CBP officials early this morning, requiring that they show just cause for his imprisonment. 

"I feel great!" exclaimed a smiling Kevin as he met the cheering crowd, who waved a Republic of Kanata flag. "I have only just begun to fight!"

Kevin is presently in a Republic of Kanata safe house undergoing debriefing with an ICLCJ lawyer and others. A public statement will be issued soon.

Issued 9:30 am Vancouver time / 5:30 am UK time

Kevin Annett is still being held in the CBP prison as of 5:30 am UK time, nearly 12 hours after his arrest.

ICLCJ lawyers are petitioning the US government directly for either Kevin's release or his remanding to Canadian authorities to prevent him being transferred to an American prison.

We are attempting to secure a Habeas Corpus access to meet with Kevin to see how he is.

If Kevin's incarceration continues past tomorrow, we will begin an immediate global, public campaign declaring him to be a political prisoner. Please stand by to assist in this campaign and to heighten your support for the cause for which Kevin and others are suffering.

A more complete report will be issued by this evening, UK time, or Friday morning in Vancouver.

Vancouver International Airport (YVR):

This morning at 10:25 am (pacific) Kevin Annett was detained by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents as he attempted to board a flight to the United States. Kevin is presently being held incommunicado in the Vancouver airport's CBP facility.

The event was witnessed by Kevin's bodyguard, Josef R., who describes what happened in this extract of a report just issued to the ICLCJ:

" ... We tried to go through YVR (airport) security early to avoid the crowd. Kevin was right behind me, as per our protocol so I could field any trouble. I passed through fine but Kevin was questioned a lot, then escorted to a secondary examination room by two CBP guys. I immediately contacted a source in the RCMP's YVR detachment to see what he could find out. All he was told was "Annett is being questioned for possible administrative processing". That could mean imprisonment, either here or in America."

ICLCJ lawyers and diplomatic contacts are making further inquiries about Kevin Annett's detention, along with Josef R., who remains at the YVR.
