Have you ever found yourself saying, "I have to finish this report," or "Ugh, I have to attend this meeting"?
It's easy to feel burdened by our tasks at work.
But what if we changed our perspective from "I have to" to "I get to"?
Instead of seeing these tasks as obligations, view them as opportunities.
"I get to finish this report" means you have a role that contributes to the team's success.
"I get to attend this meeting" means you have a seat at the table to share your ideas and collaborate.
By shifting our mindset, we transform routine tasks into privileges and opportunities for growth.
For instance, as a parent of four, I'm often driving my kids from activity to activity.
It could feel overwhelming, but I choose to see it as an opportunity. I get to spend time with my kids, witness their joys and frustrations, and be there for them in those moments.
This shift from "have to" to "get to" transforms tasks into privileges. What areas in your life can you reframe?
Embrace the opportunities you have, and you'll start seeing more things as gifts.

Are people better for having known you? 🌟
I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Brian Lord, President of Premiere Speakers Bureau, and our conversation sparked an interesting discussion:
Are people better off from having come into contact with you?
Brian emphasized the importance of intentionality in everything we do.
Whether you have a podcast, write a blog, sell a course, or lead a workshop, the key question remains the same...
Are people better off from having come into contact with you?
Why do you do what you do? What do you want the person to walk away with?
This truly struck a chord with me.
Whether it's through crafting podcasts or writing articles, Brian's insight serves as a powerful reminder to prioritize enriching lives over simply going through the motions.
What is your “why”?

Navigating organizational change is undeniably challenging.
Whether it involves major shifts in personnel, company goals, service offerings, operations, or cultural transformations, these changes can be tough to navigate.
I personally experienced the impact of organizational change during a merger that eventually led to my layoff. That experience left a lasting impression on me—I still recall the mix of emotions I felt that day!
Despite the difficulty, such changes are sometimes necessary. As a leader driving change, your ability to actively listen to your team's concerns and feedback becomes crucial.
By tuning in and truly understanding their perspectives, you cultivate empathy and trust within your organization.
For employees undergoing workplace shifts, feeling heard and understood can significantly impact how these changes unfold—either positively or in a way that could tarnish reputations.
And as we've all seen on the news, this is something we want to avoid.
With #activelistening we can steer our organizations toward success during times of transformation. 🌟

Navigating return-to-work orders can be challenging, as exemplified by companies like Amazon, Zoom, Nike, Disney, Apple, and so many more.
In 2023, Amazon mandated office return at least three days a week, with potential job loss for noncompliance.
Zoom shifted to a structured hybrid model but faced criticism for its in-office requirements despite being a remote collaboration tool.
Nike escalated from 3 to 4 days in-office, Disney faced backlash over a 4-day office mandate, leading to layoffs, and Apple reverted to 3 in-office days post-experiment.
There is no "one size fits all" approach on how to do this.
Amidst these shifts in workplace policies, fostering a resilient and inclusive workplace culture demands empathy and strategic adaptation.
I know this is a pressing issue for many companies. That's why I decided to do a video on the topic, where I share three key strategies for successfully navigating the return-to-work transition.
These three key strategies are not a "one size fits all" approach but guidelines for finding the right balance for your organization.

"You can be kind and still deliver tough news. And in fact, I think it is unkind to not convey really critical feedback that could help that person course correct and maybe blossom even further in their career." -Â Anita Brikman
Can you tell why I was so excited to have her on the podcast?!
Anita's perspective resonates deeply in the professional world. As leaders, providing constructive feedback with empathy and clarity is not just about being direct—it's about fostering growth and development.
And it can all done while still being kind and showing care!
You don't want to miss it!
How has feedback (or the lack thereof) impacted your career journey? Can you share a personal experience? đź’

Reflecting on my career, only a select few managers truly stood out—those who made me feel like more than just another employee.
One was "Ed", a remarkable leader I had the privilege of working with. Ed possessed a unique blend of curiosity and humor that made him approachable and empathetic. When I hit roadblocks early in my role, feeling frustrated and unsure how to excel, Ed noticed.
One day, with a warm smile, he took the time to sit down with me. "Heather, I understand your frustration. You're doing great with what we've given you. Just keep at it," he reassured me.
His actions exemplified Caring Leadership®—before I even knew what Caring Leadership was!
Caring Leadership is just about Leaders with Heart, it's about recognizing, reassuring, and empowering. That's why my podcast is called "Leadership with Heart"!
Ed's approach encapsulated the essence of leadership that goes beyond just managing tasks and completing projects—it's about nurturing individuals and building resilient, engaged teams. I experienced first-hand the difference that a leader like this can have within an organization.
My 9 Caring Leadership® behaviors are a straightforward way to ensure that you create workplaces where everyone feels valued and supported. 🌟
They are the framework for becoming the caring leader who makes a difference.
Isn't that how you want to be remembered?

You know what makes the speaking industry truly special?
That instead of looking at each other as competition, we support each other and have a strong sense of community.
I’ve made a personal commitment to support my friends more and cultivate deeper relationships of trust. This year, I am focusing on extending myself beyond my immediate circles.
This is why I love our industry—it’s rare to find such genuine support among “competitors.”
I had a fantastic evening at the LEAD event for emerging hospitality leaders a little while back! It was a joy to spend time with my friend 🪑Marilyn Sherman, CSP, CPAE 🪑, from the National Speakers Association while she was in town.
It was a joy to watch a Hall of Famer in action and show my support!
Take this as a small reminder to show support to those around you.
P.S. What makes your industry special? What can you do to add to it?
