"Welcome to a world where adventure meets the ocean—if you love sailing, surfing, and exploring remote corners of the world, you're in the right place."

We are Ben and Alie and we bought a 41' sailboat to live on and sail in British Columbia with our sandy boat dog Bruce. After sailing around Vancouver Island, and refitting the boat we set our sights to warmer water surf destinations. After Sailing from Canada to Mexico, both the boat and ourselves as sailors have come a long way. We've met our dream of surfing warm water waves off our sailboat, but we are only just getting started. Next Stop French Polynesia!

Breaking Waves

Around nine days into our passage to Tonga, we were confronted with a big weather system from the southern ocean. Expecting around 25 knots, gusting 30+ we were caught with too much sail out in the middle of the night (even though we were double reefed already) when 40+ knots hit us. Way over powered, running down wind and sailing consistently at 11-12 knots boat speed (much too fast for our 41' boat). We had to work the deck to tie our third reef into the main and just a sliver of head sail to keep things balanced. Our anxiety's washed away as Kiana geared down and the boat balanced out at a reasonable 8 knots boat speed. We warmed up with hot chocolate and watched the massive waves roll by in awe as the ocean did it's thing. Check out our latest video to catch our wildest passage yet! Thanks to @ionSailLoftVictoria for recommending that third reef point :).

We'll be sharing this story and more on February 1 at 4:00 pm PST at the Vancouver International Boat Show. We're hosting a Patron meet up after at 5:30 pm and attendees of our seminar will be invited. Hope to see you there!

Sneak peak - biggest storm we have ever sailed though, in the middle of the Pacific, far from any safe harbour. Any guesses who we found out there? Live now in Patreon!
