সুন্দরবন ঘুরে বাড়িতে গিয়েছিলেন জগন্নাথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ব্যবস্থাপনা বিভাগের শিক্ষার্থী রাজু আহমেদ। ভোটের পরে পরিস্থিতি খারাপ হতে পারে, এমন আশঙ্কা থেকে আগেভাগে ঢাকায় ফেরার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন। পাশাপাশি নতুন টিউশনি পেয়েছেন। আবার চলতি মাসের শেষের দিকে একটি চাকরির পরীক্ষাও আছে। তাই আবারও বাড়ি ফিরতে হবে। সবকিছু মাথায় রেখেই আজ শুক্রবার তিনি চুয়াডাঙ্গা থেকে বেনাপোল এক্সপ্রেসে করে ঢাকার উদ্দেশে রওনা হন।
ট্রেনে ওঠার পর থেকে রাজু ঘুমাননি। কারণ, যদি কোথাও লাইন কাটা থাকে বা দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে, তাহলে যেন দ্রুত নেমে পড়তে পারেন, সেই আশঙ্কায় সারাক্ষণ হাঁটাহাঁটি করেছেন। তবে রাজু ও তাঁর পরিবারের শঙ্কা সত্যি হয়েছে। কমলাপুর পৌঁছানোর ঠিক আগেই রাজধানীর গোপীবাগে বেনাপোল এক্সপ্রেস ট্রেনটিতে আগুন লেগে যায়। সৌভাগ্যক্রমে তিনি বেঁচে ক্যাম্পাসে ফিরেছেন। সেখানেই প্রতিবেদককে তিনি ঘটনার বর্ণনা দেন।

কমলাপুর রেলস্টেশনে পৌঁছানোর অল্প কিছুক্ষণ আগে রাত ৯টার দিকে ট্রেনটিতে আগুন লাগে। অন্তত চারজনের মৃত্যু হয়েছে। ফায়ার সার্ভিসের এক বার্তায় বলা হয়, দুর্বৃত্তরা বেনাপোল এক্সপ্রেসের তিনটি কোচ ও একটি পাওয়ার কারে আগুন দিয়েছে। ফায়ার সার্ভিসের আটটি ইউনিটের চেষ্টায় রাত ১০টা ২০ মিনিটের দিকে আগুন নিয়ন্ত্রণে আসে।
রাজু বলেন, তিনি ছিলেন ‘জ’ কোচে। সেই কোচের শৌচাগারের লক নষ্ট থাকায় সামনের বগি ‘ছ’তে যান। সেখানে শৌচাগার থেকে বেরিয়ে তিনি সামনের ‘চ’ এসি কোচে আগুন দেখতে পান। পরে দ্রুত লাফিয়ে নেমে পড়েন ট্রেন থেকে। তাঁর বগিতে প্রায় শতাধিক সিটের পাশাপাশি অতিরিক্ত ২০-৩০ জন দাঁড়ানো যাত্রী ছিলেন।
রাজু আহমেদ বলেন, ‘চুয়াডাঙ্গা থেকে বিকেল চারটায় ট্রেনে উঠি। কমলাপুর রেলস্টেশনে রাত নয়টায় নামার কথা ছিল। ঢাকার কাছাকাছি আসার সময় ভেবেছিলাম বাসার পাশে গেন্ডারিয়া স্টেশনে ট্রেন দাঁড়ালে নেমে যাব। পরে ট্রেন না দাঁড়ানোই, ব্যাগ সঙ্গে নিয়েই টয়লেটে যাই। গিয়ে দেখি আমাদের বগির টয়লেট গেটের লক নষ্ট। পরে সামনের বগির টয়লেটে যাই। সেই বগিতে এলাকার এক ছোট ভাই ছিল, দুজনে একসঙ্গে নামারও কথা ছিল।’
