I’d known about the subversive and queer elements Whale and his troupe had injected into their horror films, but I didn’t know that Universal caved to pressure from the Nazis and censored a World War I epic he directed later in his career — a crazy story! Highly recommend the video!

I've been swamped with pre-production on my vampire movie, as well as writing and shooting a feature-length video essay on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein that will be coming out later this month. I'm not anti-AI as a blanket statement. I regularly use some automated processes, like background removal in graphic design or noise reduction in sound editing, during the production of my films and videos for this channel. These technologies have done wonders for my workflow and spared me thousands of headaches. For a while, I also dabbled in making AI voices for quote reads. Some of them worked, some of them didn't – it was a fun experiment.

However, one thing that I do not use AI for (and will go to my grave before I do) is to generate my ideas, my feelings, and to write my scripts for me. GPS annihilated my sense of direction and social media discombobulated my attention span, so I refuse to allow LLMs to flatten my creativity and silence the Voice I have spent decades cultivating.

The reason I'm telling you this is not to virtue signal, but to promise publicly that all the work you see before my name will be my own.

I urge other creators on this platform to do the same.

I'd also like to ask the nearly half a million people who subscribe to this channel to join me in making it socially unacceptable for creators to use LLMs at any point in their idea generation or writing process. If someone you watch admits to using AI as a writing tool, hold them accountable! Unsubscribe, withdraw your support from their Patreon, leave negative comments on their social media, and make their lives just a little bit more difficult.

People who allow a machine to do their dreaming for them do not deserve your time, your affection, or your money.

Artists are the unacknowledged legislators of the world. Culture is built upon our backs. At this pivotal moment in history, YOU get to decide through YOUR viewing habits and financial support whether you want your culture to be vibrant, surprising, and alive, or whether you want it to be a shambling corporate golem with the flat, soulless smile of a Silicon Valley parasite.
