I record my drums in a separate room from where I do all my editing and mixing. But really, at this desk is where I do most of my work! So let's dive in. π
This entire setup is designed to give me the necessary tools to do my job well without costing a fortune. It strikes a great balance between affordable and practical, without skipping any of the necessities. πͺ
Software first - I record my drums into Cubase Elements 10.5, use Slate Digital plugins for mixing, transcribe any sheet music in Guitar Pro 7, and edit my videos in Adobe Premiere Pro.
I'm using a βͺ@presonusβ¬ Quantum ES2 audio interface to hook up my monitors and headphones. I really like the sleek design of this interface - You have all the controls you need with minimal footprint. One main knob controls all your volumes, as you can toggle between having it control the monitors, headphones or microphone inputs. The auto-gain feature is really cool too, letting me quickly set the gain for my voice mic whenever I'm doing Zoom calls, podcasts, voiceovers, etc..
I should also mention I do all my drum recordings via another interface setup in my drum room, and pull a looooong USB cable from there to my PC. That way I can easily just switch over to the PreSonus interface and monitors to do my mixing and editing later.
For monitors I'm using the Presonus Eris Studio 5's. Fantastic monitors that don't break the bank, with some cool customization options in the back such as Low Cutoff and Acoustic Space controls to help you EQ the monitors to fit your specific room. Plenty of volume, compact yet powerful, nicely balanced with a rich and full sound, and also with a nice and sleek design to fit in with the other equipment.
I tend to do most of my mixing on headphones and mainly use the monitors to cross check certain elements of my mix, especially making sure the low end and panning is nice and balanced. But when the audio is done and it's time to edit video, I switch over to the monitors fully.
They also see a lot of use outside of just work - I listen to music on them, watch YouTube, play video games, etc.. Sometimes it's just nice to not wear a pair of headphones all day. π€
Speaking of mixing on headphones - I use a set of AKG K712 Pro's. They've been with me for several years now and still hold up great. π
I wanted to get some quality cables for this setup - nothing crazy, but also not the super cheap ones I've used in the past. π Lucky for me there's a perfect middle ground with new Gator Cableworks cables by βͺ@gatorcasesofficialβ¬. I use the Composer Series cables - 2x XLR to 1/4" jack for the monitors and 1x regular XLR for the microphone.
Speaking of Gator, I also use some gear from their Frameworks line of equipment. I'm really happy with their Desktop Studio Monitor Stands in combination with their Studio Monitor Isolation Pads, which allow me to get my monitors exactly where I need them to be. Sturdy, easily adjustable - and they blend in perfectly with everything else. π
There's more to mention here - PC components, the gear I use to record my drums, etc., but I'll leave that for my full Gear Page on my website. Feel free to check it out here: www.sirosvaziri.com/gear
All in all, I'm SUPER happy with this setup and especially with the new additions from Presonus and Gator. π
And finally, a huge thanks to βͺ@sweetwaterβ¬ for sponsoring this post. π If you are interested in grabbing any of this gear for your own setup, Sweetwater is the place to shop at. π Their industry knowledge and customer care really is second to none.

My man. Thank you Art Cruz for inviting me and a group of my Drum Camp students to your Stockholm gig with βͺ@lambofgodofficialβ¬. It's always great seeing you kill it on stage and the students were so thrilled to get to meet you. Until next time. π

Back in September, I had the great pleasure of being interviewed for the Meinl Radio Podcast, and that episode is now live! Definitely one of my favorite podcast appearances, and I had such a great time. Hope you will enjoy the things we discuss - from drums to life and everything between.
