Recently, a lot of discussions have been going on across the country regarding UPI payments, and people are confused about whether charges will apply to payments above ₹2,000. Now, a big and clear statement has been issued by the Modi government and the Ministry of Finance.

Let's find out how these rules actually affect common people, customers, and shopkeepers:

📌 What is the truth for the general public and customers?

• Completely Free: UPI payments will remain completely free for regular customers, just like before. You do not have to pay any extra fee or charge on any transaction.

• The ₹2,000 Limit Confusion: The ₹2,000 limit is only a benchmark for merchants (businesses). It does not mean that a common customer has to pay any fee for payments above ₹2,000.

• P2P Transactions are Free: If you send money to your friends, family, or any individual, there are zero charges regardless of the amount.

📌 What changed for merchants and shopkeepers?

• MDR (Merchant Discount Rate): Rules apply to large merchant transactions above ₹2,000, but this does not put a direct burden on the common customer's pocket.

• Relief for Small Shopkeepers: Small vendors and street vendors are safeguarded under these policies.
