A deeper look at the creative intent, crew, gear, and post-workflow behind our slow-motion stroll through a forgotten Pullman station.

🌱 Concept & Creative Choices
We wanted a timeless yet futuristic vibe: a model walking carefree through an abandoned Pullman passenger yard, swathed in matrix-green hues. The green dress, the green-tinted LUT, and the derelict rail cars echo liberation from the past and hint at a cyber-punk future. Two contrasting looks (vibrant emerald daywear, noir black lace eveningwear) show dual facets of the same character, all in contemplative slow motion.

• ​Sony FX3 (Cinema Line) → 4K 120 fps, S-Log3, 10-bit 4:2:2
• ​DJI RS 3 Pro Gimbal → Bluetooth follow-focus, Tilt-Arm ext. rod for long-lens balance
• ​Lenses:
 – Sony 24-70 mm f/2.8 GM II (walk-along shots at 35 mm)
 – Sony 50 mm f/1.2 GM (close-ups, f/2 for shallow DOF)
• ​Freewell 2-5-stop VND → kept shutter 180-degree rule (1/240 s at 120 fps)
• ​Tilta Mirage matte box w/ diffusion 1/8 “Black Mist” → halated highlights on metal siding
• ​SmallRig V-mount plate + 98 Wh battery → uninterrupted high-frame-rate takes
• ​Audio: On-camera scratch for sync only (final music licensed, see description)

🎛️ Camera Settings & Look
• Picture profile: S-Log3 / S-Gamut3.Cine (ISO 800 base)
• White balance: 5500 K (locked)
• FPS: 23.976 fps project base; captured at 4K 120 fps → 20 % real-time playback for dreamy motion
• Matrix-style Green LUT applied in DaVinci Resolve, then fine-tuned in ACES (RRT+ODT – P3-D65)
• Key tweaks: –8 % contrast, +10 % mid-tone detail, selective sat boost on greens/cyans, silver-cyan shadows, slight magenta highlights to balance skin

💡 Location & Lighting
• Pullman rail yard (decommissioned 1940s passenger line) – 9 am to 1 pm window for favorable backlight
• Natural sun as key → neg-fill with 4×4 black foam board camera-left to sculpt cheek bones
• 90 cm collapsible reflector (silver/white) for eye-light flashes on close-ups
• No artificial lighting: portable power kept weight down for gimbal tracking shots along ballast and uneven pavement

Offloaded to SSD, verified with Hedge.
Sync-Map in Resolve; proxied to 1080p DNxHR LB for smooth edit.
Speed-warp optical flow retimed 120 fps → 23.976 fps.
ACES-cct color pipeline, custom 3D LUT (Matrix Green v1.2) blended 55 %.
Graphics & watermark templated in After Effects; final masters:
 • YouTube: 4K HEVC 10-bit 200 Mb/s
 • Instagram Reels: 1080×1920, 23.976 fps, 50 Mb/s
🎥 Behind-the-Scenes Notes
• Wind gusts threatened the feathered hat – fishing-line hair pins saved the shot.
• We shot handheld plates first to pre-visualize blocking; switched to gimbal once timing felt musical.
• FX3’s active-steady shot was disabled (conflicts with gimbal pan) – relied on RS 3’s SuperSmooth plus slight Warp Stabilizer (5 %) in post.
• The rail authority let us power the RS 3 batteries from an old signal shed (thanks, Bill!).
• Total footprint: sub-4-person crew kept permits simple and allowed nimble set-ups along the track.
