Jamie first created a name for himself as a guitarist after becoming the youngest winner of the North American Rock Guitar Competition at the age of 17. Jamie has been featured in Guitar Player magazine, wrote columns for Canadian Musician magazine, shared the stage with John 5, Grammy-Nominated Melanie Fiona, and many more.

After being offered the first full-scholarship to the prestigious Musician's Institute in Hollywood, California, where the likes of Paul Gilbert, Synyster Gates, and Mateus Asato have studied, Jamie moved to Los Angeles at the age of 19 where he also landed the gig producing music for Fox Sports, A&E, Spike TV, and many more.

In October 2021, Jamie decided to become a content creator on YouTube and TikTok. Within 18 months he amassed a following on TikTok of over 200,000 followers and received his Silver Award on YouTube for surpassing 100,000 subscribers.

Based out of Toronto, Canada, Jamie maintains an online teaching schedule of over 50 students every week.

Technical Fundamentals For RHYTHM Guitar Playing!

In This Video We Look At:
A video example of Paul Jackson Jr. and how he's able to keep his rhythm so locked in while playing for Daft Punk!

Two song examples (Night Moves by Bob Seger & Can't Stop by The Red Hot Chili Peppers) and how we can practice this important fundamental in a variety of rhythm guitar scenarios.

The necessary technique for your fretting hand to actually take some of the pressure off of your strumming hand while also cleaning up everything you're playing!

And finally, how these same fundamental techniques can be applied to your single-note melody/lead lines to have better rhythm while soloing!

Tired Of Always Playing The Same Licks? Try This Improving Challenge!

It's extremely common for all players of all levels to fall into the habit of playing the "same old licks" when jamming or improvising.

The reason practicing improvisation is such a huge chunk of my personal practice time nowadays is because I'm constantly trying to search for new ideas and new licks to expand my musical vocabulary!

This week's challenge is a fun one that forces you to stay on your toes while playing and prevents you from getting lost in your own world while playing!

In This Video We Look At:

🔴How to create smoother phrases while changing keys without changing positions.

🔴How this forces you to think creatively and come up with new musical ideas!

🔴How this gets you knowing your fretboard better and your ability to visualize your scales while playing!

Last week we challenged our Alternate Picking with a fun exercise I created.

This week we are challenging an often overlooked but VERY important technique; LEGATO!

Separating the hands and building up their individual strength is very important when it comes to good hand synchronization!

In This Video We Look At:

🔴How to properly build up the technique of your fretting hand so you don'y rely on your picking to "lead the way".

🔴The challenges of practicing Legato that are different than most other techniques.

🔴The 3 stages of this week's exercise and how they challenge your technique in different ways throughout the exercise.

🚨NEW PATREON LESSON🚨

This week I have a fun, musical exercise for you guys to practice to challenge your picking and overall hand synchronization!

In This Video We Look At:

🔴How the use of odd groupings in a consistent subdivision can give the illusion of rhythm!

🔴How odd groupings challenge the technique of both hands more than an even grouping.

🔴How I'm outing a chord progression within the melody to make it sound more musical than most exercises!

🔴How you can take this theme/idea and apply it to your own progressions to challenge your theory knowledge within the key!

In This Video We Look At:

The added harmonic perspective to your playing from using arpeggios!

How this gets you seeing your fretboard in a whole new way!

How using an Octave approach can easily get you moving around the fretboard like I use in my practice etudes.

A few fun phrasing ideas I like to use to spice up my arpeggios to make them sound even more interesting!

🚨NEW PATREON LESSON🚨

This week we are looking at one of my favourite go-to scales when improvising or looking for a slightly out-of-the-box sound!

You don't need to understand a ton of music theory to follow along. But this will get you trying some new ideas on the fretboard so you're not stuck in the same shapes all the time!

In This Video We Look At:

🔴The composition of the scale and the musical situations it works best in!

🔴How the TWO ways of playing it in a single position allow for some great symmetrical ideas on the fretboard!

🔴Specific examples of how Eddie Van Halen and Dimebag Darrell have used this in their solos to create amazing sounding leads!

🔴How I would suggest practicing it to apply it to your playing for cool new ideas!
