BGSU alumnus and Green Bay Packers sixth-round draft pick Karl Brooks talks about his Bowling Green Falcons football days, what he learned by being a Falcon, plus you'll never guess what his mom's favorite color is. #AyZiggy#alwaysBG
The peregrine falcon chicks reach their 40-day milestone on June 21 and at that time, they can start to fledge, or take their first flight anywhere between 40-44 days old.
They haven't taken their first flights yet, and it will be bittersweet when they do, as they won't return to the nest box. When they take their flights out of the Wood County Courthouse clock tower, one of two things will happen:
1. They'll take flight and frantically flap until they navigate to an easy landing (roof, gutter, or the ground). 2. A gust of wind will blow them off the edge of the box and down into the giant gutter just below the nest box, where they could stay for a day or two until they take their first flight.
When they leave the nest, the young falcons don’t go far and hang out close to home to still get fed. Viewers can tell the difference between a parent and a chick by the frantic versus confident flapping of their wings.
What is on this peregrine falcon chick's mind? Give us your best guesses and check out the two baby falcons on the 2023 Falcon Cam! youtube.com/live/hCXpI0_6TLc
