We were on local TV news today... talking about our wedding.

All the standard 'feather rufflin' is happening, but Steve and I are just happy lil clams over here...

because this wedding is very 'us' (which is kinda the point, right?)

We don't care if people don't like it. We do.

It was funny to explain selling wedding tickets to a news reporter and WHY it made sense for us to do this.

There’s been a fair amount of confusion, some internet trolls (bless their hearts), and of course, the classic “wait… you’re charging people to come to your wedding???”

So let me break it down... from my heart, and from an entrepreneur's brain:

THE FLOW OF PROBLEMS/SOLUTIONS THAT LED US TO SELL TICKETS TO OUR WEDDING (cuz we know it's abnormal):

Lots of people wanted to attend, but as numbers grew, so did the bill. So, we just asked people to cover their meal, rather than get us a gift, and then just party with us! We're not doing this to 'make any money', but simply to breakeven on a GREAT PARTY with everyone

People began thinking that we were just out to sell tickets like a normal business event, so we added in a huge charity donation and began collaborating with our favorite charity, Village Impact. The wedding is a 'breakeven event', with a donation plate. At the wedding, we'll be raising money to build more classrooms in Kenya. Yes, you get cake. And yes, a kid gets a classroom.

Running a 'cover-your-meal-only' wedding meant we had no money left over for some entertainment, so we began collaborating with incredible worldclass acts, and finding ways make this worth their time for less than normal rates.

Here's just SOME of the talent who'll be there:

Michelle Sohan — crowned Best Tasting Cake in the World (she beat out 19 countries in Italy). She’s making our cake. Unreal.
Mamas Secrets Cookies — yes, the favorite of John Travolta & Barbara Streisand
Stella’s Ice Cream — donating their legendary scoops.
A water sponsor — from our favorite DM platform.
An energy drink sponsor — because hydration is a love language.
America’s Got Talent viral trombonist — performing live.
DJ Dynamix + The Ragozas — think Cirque du Soleil meets Coachella.
A world-class speaking coach — sponsoring our rehearsal dinner.
Our favorite holistic doctor — sponsoring our biohacking brunch with 150 people.
Merch, art, and other wild donations — going straight to Village Impact.

(I know I'm forgetting a lot of them right now)

MY POINT.
It reminds me of PT Barnum doing stuff that's SO LOUD, that news stations come to you, asking for a story, instead of begging for attention.

I DARE YOU TO:
1) do a stunt so big its unavoidable to notice you
2) attend our wedding (lol, we have to give a final count to our catering 'yesterday')

Because when you stay true to who you are, you don’t need permission.
You just need to build it loud enough that your people can find you.

So let me tell you how I accidentally manifested the best tasting cake in the WORLD at my wedding…

Because this all started with a cake quote that nearly sent me into a rage...

A few months ago, we were venue shopping, doing all the normal wedding things, when someone casually quoted me:

$650. To cut the cake.
Not to make the cake.
Not to design the cake.

Just to have someone stand there with a knife and slice it up.

My brain short-circuited.

Like, what even is cake? Who needs cake? Who decided you have to spend thousands on flour, sugar, and fondant for strangers who don’t even RSVP on time??

And that, my friend, was the start of the spiral that turned into:
👉 Selling tickets to our wedding
👉 Disrupting the entire wedding industry
👉 And building a model that helps other couples fund honeymoons, homes, and in our case... a classroom in Kenya with Village Impact.

So ironically, I never thought we’d actually have cake.

We booked vintage ice cream trucks. Stella’s is bringing smoked salted caramel ice cream (did you even know you could SMOKE ice cream??) and I was like:

Cool. Done.
Cake? Who needs it.

…Enter the universe with the most ridiculous plot twist of all.

Because one day, I open my DMs and there’s a message from this sweet angel named Michelle Sohan. She says:

“Hey, I’d love to make your wedding cake.”

So I do what any reasonable bride would do. I Google her.

And nearly pass out. Because Michelle isn’t just any baker.

She flies all over the world making high end cakes, like even $10,000 cakes that descend from chandeliers.

She competed against 19 countries in Milan…

…and WON the title of “Best Tasting Cake in the World.”

So now I’m over here texting my wedding planner like:
“Remember when I was anti-cake?

Now we basically have the Beyoncé of cake at our wedding. Cool cool cool.”

And that’s how this all somehow turned into:
✨ A 3-day wedding festival under Idaho skies
✨ With performers who’ve toured with Cirque du Soleil
✨ Smoked ice cream, luxury sponsors, world-class cake
✨ Raising money to build a classroom in Kenya

All because a $650 cake cutting fee made me question everything.
