Mr. Spork's Hands

A place to park my nuggets of video madness about food, gardening, architecture, and Canadian life in general. I try to keep the editing light so you can see how my 'real' kitchen works and laugh at my ridiculous hacking disasters. I hope you learn, laugh, and enjoy the Hands. Cheers!

Mr. Spork's Hands

Had a spot of bother up here thanks to Fiona. Two weeks without power, water, cell, or internet. All good now, just a heap of new logs in the yard and more cleanup on the schedule.

If soup is the way to use up leftovers in winter, cold pasta salad does the same thing in the hottest summer months. Tortellini, rotini, sweet onion, chiles, peas, basil, feta, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, radish, cherry tomatoes, homemade garlic mayo... the list goes on. You get the idea. Remember to run just-boiled pasta under cold water to stop the cooking then mix up your many delights of choice.

And the first cut of the asparagus patch this year yielded some monsters. Likely headed into some risotto or atop some creamy polenta. https://youtu.be/NEkMSnT4LUY

Mixed veg stir fry with sesame noodles on the bench now that I'm a bit more functional.

Hi folks! Sorry that pesky 'life stuff' got in the way for a month but I'm home again now. Here's last week's Waldorf Salad which was all I could manage before passing out for 20 hours catchup sleep. Not worthy of a video but recipe details for the unfamiliar found here northfarthing.ca/spork/index.php/2022/04/22/great-…

Normal humans wake up early on the weekend to make waffles and coffee. Whackos like me wake up and make a batch of habanero salsa. Not sure why the urge hit me at 6am but I suspect tacos in my near future.

I also made another batch of goat cheese yesterday https://youtu.be/bTnyxQU0lDo and had planned to make something with it but somehow it all managed to "disappear" around afternoon tea time. You can see the culling of the buttercrunch lettuce seedlings didn't go to waste. Microgreens for the win.

Remember the TWO blue pumpkin seeds as backup in the seed starting video? https://youtu.be/BBUHFfFvjno Well they both decided to pop up. Here's day 15 and as you can see the root growth is exactly what you want thanks to the loose starting mix. I'm filming part three today so expect two more episodes from the grow closet shortly.

Up here in blueberry country, we know a thing or two about filthy, indulgent pancakes. Use ALL whole wheat flour for puffy pancakes (no, really). Make a compote for the topping instead of putting berries in the batter. And add a touch of maple with plenty of butter. Let me know if you want to see them in action. Recipe in the third image of this post. Enjoy!

Leek potato & corn chowder anyone? Chicken in there too with cheddar & croutons. The vid will be up in a couple hours if you don't already have Thursday dinner plans for St. Pat's day. Ready in well under an hour!
