Here’s a bit from the original 1998 Netscape Public License (NPL) (before Mozilla rewrote parts of it later):

“You may modify the source code, but Netscape retains the right to incorporate your changes into their own version without compensation.”

AND (this is the kicker):

“You may not use the Netscape trademarks, brand names, logos, or confusingly similar names without prior written permission.”

Yeah saving things from years ago is great material for humor. Which basically meant if you fork it without using their brand name, you are not allowed to compete with Netscape without written permission?

During the making of the video on Easy vs Hardcore Linux distros, I was using Proxmox to host the distros I was considering, there have been a number of enhancements Fedora is making to virt-viewer and in particular SPICE. I noticed some distros were extremely fast and responsive (mouse and text inputs). However some of them were sluggish, in checking futher it looks like the Wayland based DEs were doing great while the X11 based DEs were struggling...have you noticed this behavior in other X11 based apps?

My Goals for 2025: I am expanding my videos to at least 3 per week, with 1 short, 1 Explainer, 1 News (A Semi Serious Look at a Weekly Roundup. One Live or More per Month to Cover Special Events, Ask me Anything, Lab Work. So I will be coming here occasionally to touch bases with you to see what topics you want (I have a growing list of things people are asking me to look at.
