Rainbow and Sunset 10/13/25. This evening we were treated with a rainbow from the setting sun and some beautiful storm clouds with the sunset. I might have missed these shots were it not for my friend Tony. I was just about to start eating dinner when I got a message from him. He said he was looking at my livecams and was surprised to see the sun was out. He said it looked like there still might be some rain so if I looked toward the hills I might see a rainbow. My answer to him:

"Possibly. But even though the sun is out, it’s still raining here. And I don’t really have a place where I can get a protected view toward the hills. But more importantly I just finished reheating my steak and pouring a glass of wine."

And then, about 20 minutes later I messaged him:

"Well, I suspect you already knew this was going to happen, but despite what I said, I grabbed the camera and went out."

Rainbow over the Pier 9/30/25. As I was working on my Red-tailed Hawk Kiting video, my wife exclaimed “Oh! Come look!”. I looked out the window and saw a nice rainbow. I grabbed my camera and headed to the roof. The rainbow “migrated” across the sky over several minutes.

Sunset 9/17/25. After an afternoon of videoing the whales, I was having an online chat with a couple of my photographer friends while downloading the footage to my computer. At one point one of them said, “If I was either of you guys…I’d be setting up for a potential sweet sunset pic … Nice view from my sofa now…”. He was watching the livestream from my webcams. I was in my office on my computer, oblivious to the beauty unfolding outside. I stepped out of my office and looked out the front window and said “Oh!” and grabbed my camera. So credit for these shots goes to Tony.

Red-tailed Hawk 9/15/25. Are you lookin’ at me? I said, are you lookin’ at me?? I was out chasing the dolphins again today. While I was waiting at Mussel Rock for them to come down from Ft Funston where I last left them (they never did …. ), this Red-tailed Hawk landed in front of me. I pointed my lens at him, and he seemed to have a bit of an attitude about that. We had a bit of a stare-down for a while, and then he took off but he circled a few times, often staring right at me.

The heat distortion was pretty fierce, as you can see from the background and specular highlights (and that was after I softened it up a bunch). Barely one in forty shots was even remotely clear, but I was able to pull a few decent shots out of the bunch.
