Welcome to BCNephro
This channel was created to share experiences as a physician, as a nephrologist, and in life. It will highlight how I approach and think about the diagnosis and treatment of nephrologic conditions as well as life experiences I have enjoyed and look forward to. It is intended for medical residents, students, practitioners and anyone with a passion for learning and enjoying life.
A Disclaimer, because unfortunately I have to put something in here. This channel and its videos are for entertainment, education and information purposes only. The topics discussed should not be used to diagnose, treat or prevent any disease or condition. In short I’m not responsible if you screw up. If you’re a medical provider, do your homework and seek consultation when necessary. If you're a patient, always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health provider.
Thanks for being a part of this journey.

This week's video is a redo of one of my earlier Doodly videos, without background music and with a more in depth audio description.

As we begin 2025 I wish to thank you for your interest and support of BCNephro. I hope you have found something of value. I started this channel 2 years ago with a goal to share my experiences in nephrology and life. I didn’t know what to expect, embraced the ideal of having no expectation, endeavored to have fun and learn along the way.
What has happened, the channel amassed 590 subscribers (72 this past month) and 2,337 watch hours (367 this past month). The most popular video on chronic kidney disease has more than 32,000 views.
Maybe not impressive by YouTube standards, but I am humbled that this many people have found this educational content worth watching.
To share 2 life lessons I have learned along the way.
1. Just start. It is impossible to have a perfect plan. Unexpected paths will reveal themselves. This channel was intended for a medical audience (such as students, residents, nurses and nurse practitioners). Undoubtedly many who watch fit into these categories. I did not expect interest from patients. This occurred mainly, I believe, by a video modeling how I educate patients on the stages of chronic kidney disease. This highlights that medical knowledge is necessary, but not sufficient to become an excellent physician. Educating and counseling patients is an important skill that should be taught.
2. Consistency. There have been many times when my videos have gotten very few views. It took 8 months for the chronic kidney disease video to get any traction. It would have been easy to give up, to assume there was no value, that no one was interested. I questioned myself, who am I to present myself as an authority on nephrology? I trudged on, one step at a time and grounded myself in the frame that I am sharing my experience, how I do things. I am an authority on that.
