Making music videos is hard.
Making animated music videos is very hard.
And making good animated music videos is extremely hard.

I know—because I tried.

To go along with Human afeter all: Revisited, I wanted to release three full videos:
"Human After All", "Steam Machine", and "Make Love",
plus a short promo spot using "Technologic".

I wanted each video to have its own unique story like a short film
a cinematic experience.

In the end, I only released one.
2d Animation defeated me.

The title track, "Human After All", became a punk rock piece.
When I produced it, I had three words in mind: youth, imperfection and vitality.
That’s why I kept the rhythmic “mistakes,” the slightly awkward moments—
because that’s part of the energy.

Naturally, I imagined a story about a teenage rock band inspired by my own life.
I think many teenagers pick up an instrument because they’re fascinated by how cool it looks.
Then they jam with their friends, playing simple stuff (like Nirvana),
and they start dreaming of glory which isn’t impossible today with internet virality
(we’ve all watched cat videos making millions views , after all).

Visually, I had Japanese anime in mind;
I love that ultra-stylized character design combined with realistic, detailed backgrounds,
and the epic staging you get in series like "Saint Seiya"
(even though half the shots are static frames).

Today, I think the video isn’t great technically
but it taught me so much:
2D animation, background creation, CGI, and more.
And I still like the story.

If I had the time and energy, I would have gone much further with the next videos.

For "Steam Machine", I wanted to tell the story of an "evil" teapot.
For "Make Love", a tale of romance and scam.
And "Technologic"… put all the iconic robots from cinema and tv
(and then get destroyed by copyright strikes).

Maybe with modern AI tools, I’ll be able to make them for a few bucks
and without spending hundreds of hours on each one. Who knows ?
Like George Lucas made Star Wars: Special Edition,
I could make "Human After All: Revisited – The Special Edition", and then" The Definitive Edition", "The Ultimate Edition", "The Definitive Ultimate Final Edition",
and so on…

“Human After All” by Daft Punk just turned 20.

It’s going to be celebrated everywhere, fans will be posting their thoughts,
the classic "GOATs, please come back" comments…

But everyone will forget that, back when it came out, the album "divided" fans and even "disappointed" many.
For some people, it even felt like the end of the duo…

Of course, Coachella and "Random Access Memories" proved otherwise.

As for me, I’ve always had a love–hate relationship with this record.
Aside from "Robot Rock" and **Emotion**, I never truly connected with it as a listener.
But as a musician, it inspired me to create an entire tribute album I’m actually very happy with: "HAA Revisited".

The idea started the day I was messing around with some power chords, and something instantly reminded me of "Television Rules the Nation".
I played over it, and it sounded surprisingly good.

Then I wondered: "what would this sound like as a rock arrangement—guitar, bass, drums—with a "Metallica Black Album” vibe?"

The more I explored that idea, the more fun I had.
Until one day, I set myself a challenge:
"Create a full remix/cover album of “Human After All” in a rock–electro hybrid style",
each track inspired by a major rock subgenre or artist.

Here’s what I ended up with:

"Human After All" — Punk Rock ( The Offspring, New Rose)
"The Prime Time of Your Life" — Hard Rock (Guns N’ Roses)
"Robot Rock/Release The Beast" — Funk Rock (Breakwater)
"Steam Machine" — Industrial Rock (Ministry)
"Make Love"— Synthwave Rock (John Carpenter)
"The Brainwasher" — Industrial Goth Rock (Marilyn Manson)
"Television Rules the Nation" — Heavy Metal (Metallica)
"Technologic" — Electro Rock (The Prodigy)
"Emotion" — Symphonic (the exception, inspired by Arvo Pärt)

I gave myself very clear rules:
the guitar/bass/drums setup had to stay central,
the album needed a beginning, middle, and end,
No filler, no boredom—straight to the point.
Total freedom: if it didn’t sound like Daft Punk anymore but "felt" right, I kept it.

Once it was finished, I released the tracks one by one.
I promoted them on Instagram and Facebook,
and slowly they started reaching more people.

Each time I uploaded a new track, I thought I would lose most listeners…
but to my surprise, that never happened.
It showed me that a lot of Daft Punk fans are true music lovers, many of them rock fans as well.

I genuinely loved producing this album and creating the artwork, the videos—
and honestly, I wish I had the energy and time to make even more.
But that’s a story for another post…

At the end of the day, I still believe this project matters.
I tried to honor Thomas Bangalter*and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo work
not by copying them, but by making "new music", with new melodies and new grooves,
using “Human After All” as a starting point.
I can clearly hear how my style ended up merging with theirs.

One last dream I have is to perform the whole album live with a full band…
and at the very end, the robots would appear on stage.
It sounds cool—and maybe impossible—
but who knows? Life is full of possibilities.

And we can still dream it is not yet taxed .
After all, we’re only human… right?

For Halloween 2025, my new rock cover is out. It is inspired by the "Fright Night" theme composed by Brad Fiedel (Terminator, True Lies) for this cult horror movie.
I play it with some gothic vibe like Type O negative. I wanted to keep the sensuality of the original while moving towards more aggressiveness.

It is raw, and more rock guitar oriented like 90's rock...
For the video, it is the famous dance scene between Jerry Dandrige and Amy Peterson when the vampire hypnotizes the hero’s girlfriend...So it is like a "scene rescore".

Happy Halloween and welcome to fright night...For real...
