Quick post! I just wanted to wish a happy 20th anniversary to “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends”! It was one of the biggest inspirations for my art, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. 💙
I haven’t rewatched my old CartoonMania episodes in a while, but let me say what I can remember about them.
Episode 1 - Poor Direction Sense (2016) All I can remember about this short is that it was one of the first shorts that I made to entertain my family.
Episode 2 - Slapstick (2016) How the opening scene became a meme, I will never understand in a million years. The end quote was straight up taken from “American Dad”, replaced “chair” with “sledgehammer”. I wasn’t all that creative.
Episode 3 - I Am Happy (2016) Ryan’s “Mr. Will Ritson” quote was originally going to be a catchphrase of his, and he did say it again in the movie, but that was it. There was also going to be a scene with two other toons, Nestor and Truman, but their scene got scrapped.
Episode 4 - Auditions (2016) The trailer for “Sing” inspired that short. Clearly.
Episode 5 - Get Your Shinebox (2016) This was meant to be a nod to the characters that the StickFigures were named after.
Episode 6 - Firework (2016) Wanted to make another StickFigures short for the 4th of July in 2016, and also to show that Jimmy’s not someone you want to mess with.
Episode 7 - Sneaking at Night (2016) All I can remember is that my dad inspired me to add the last scene where Quincy gets caught sneaking food. My dad was in stitches when he saw the added bit at the end. There were also 200 characters at the time.
Episode 8 - Copyright (2016) Copyright was a worry of mine at the time, and I was told that it would cost $345 to have my characters copyright protected, so that short was born. The copyright chip implanter was inspired by the career chip thing from Futurama I think. Plus, you can tell that a FHFIF shot was imitated in this.
Episode 9 - I’m All Ears (2016) I finally gave my cartoonist ears. Why I didn’t give him ears in the first place, I’ll probably never remember. I think this short was also an excuse just to have Sylvester run through that golden staircase shot.
Episode 10 - They Don’t Call Him Wacky Quacky For Nothing (2016) I think I grabbed some of those corny jokes that Wacky was telling from online. One thing I still like about that short is him morphing into Ray Liotta at the end as a reference to Goodfellas.
Episode 11 - Unprotected (2016) I made this as a callback to the copyright short, and as another excuse to imitate another FHFIF shot, I was clearly obsessed with the show at the time.
Episode 12 - Masterpiece (2016) I wanted to explore more of Victor’s virus aspect, mainly with him sneezing adware all over the place.
Episode 13 - Handle With Scare (2016) Oh, this special was cringe, but I’m still fond of a few gags from here, mainly “Say ‘aah’ for Dr. Bullet!” followed by “Dang it, Henry!” One of the scenes with Donald Trumpet was originally cut in the first upload of this special, but I reuploaded it uncut. I don’t think I’m gonna do any political jokes after that. Politics are a mess.
Episode 14 - Xmas Marks the Spot (2016) I think this episode highlighted how severely unpopulated the rest of the city is the most. I had to use characters from the house to populate the rest of the city. I think I hate that about this special the most. This was the last episode I made before I began production of my movie. There were also 300 characters at this time. The last twenty were made a couple of months later before animation for the movie began.
Episode 15 - Sandwich (2016) I remember this short being influenced by scenes from both Rocko’s Modern Life (the Heffer Deluxe) and Back at the Barnyard (spit sandwich).
Episode 16 - Twelve Days of Christmas (2016) I remember it was actually one of The Simpsons’ couch gags that inspired this short.
One last thing. Thank you all so much for 1 million views on my movie!
I was 15 when I started working on it. I still cringe looking back at the writing, the designs, my voice, the obvious villain, the forced relationships, etc. for that film, there are a lot of flaws everywhere. I’m not kidding, the entire plot was literally built around my imitation of the angry mob scene from The Simpsons Movie. (It turned 17 this year, holy cow.) But honestly, despite how I feel about my movie, or any of my old work now, I’m glad that there are people who still enjoy it, and I think that me cringing at it is a good thing, because cringing is a sign of growth, and now I’m making better things with these characters, I’m still super proud of “We Built This City”. Again, many thanks to you all! Peace! ✌️
You know what, I’m curious. It’s been a little over seven months since I posted “We Built This City”. What was your favorite part? Anything you loved most about it or anything that stood out to you? Is there anything from the video that you would love to see more of?
Currently doing some linework and color tweaking for the incidental toons of the city. Planning on moving to all of their cartoonists right after. These new characters are so much fun to work with and I cannot wait to tell their stories. :)
Let me make one thing clear, I am not okay with people using AI to steal my voice, my art, or my face. Please stop. Thanks.
EDIT: Let me make another thing clear real quick. An ex-friend of mine asked for my “CartoonMania” assets from 2016-2020 in mid-2020, I didn’t remember why they asked for them but I trusted them at the time, and apparently they spread like wildfire after that, I never gave them to anyone else after that, whoever contacted the person that made fan animations and gave them those rigs through Discord in 2021 was not me, that was someone pretending to be me, and my characters have also been used for fake slanderous animations as well that have been misleading viewers including my own family, I had to clarify that those animations were not made by me. I am not okay with that. Please stop that as well. And no, I’m not giving out the new reboot assets/rigs to anyone. I mean no disrespect, but please stop asking. Thanks. That is all.
I was not kidding when I said that “Elemental” was a beautiful film, let me tell ya. And I also watched Disney’s “Once Upon a Studio” today! It was absolutely beautiful. I was so happy to see Winnie-the-Pooh and all his friends again (even Gopher, and after all he’s not in the book, ya know). 😊
Also, I was surprised to hear Iago speak. I legit thought that they got Gilbert to voice him again before he passed. Sadly, they didn’t. (R.I.P. Gilbert Gottfried 😔) He was voiced by someone else (Piotr Michael), but I’ll tell you this, he did a DANG good job. 👏

123123. Heh heh. This date won’t happen again for another 100 years. ⏳
Anyway, Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone! 🎉
