As tensions between Iran and Israel rise, many Sunni Muslims are left wondering what stance to take. On the surface, Iran presents itself as an enemy of Israel and a supporter of Palestine. Meanwhile, Israel is a well-known occupying force that has displaced and oppressed Palestinians for decades. But the reality is more complex than it seems.

Israel is undeniably a colonial project, responsible for injustice and aggression against Palestinians. It remains an enemy of Islam and Muslims. However, Iran’s role is equally troubling. Despite its anti-Israel rhetoric, Iran has supported sectarian militias in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen—often targeting Sunni communities and fueling internal conflict in the Muslim world.

This reveals a key truth: neither side represents the interests of the Ummah. Both pursue political agendas—one through occupation, the other through sectarian expansion. Supporting either side uncritically is dangerous and misguided.

For Sunni Muslims, the correct position is one of conscious neutrality—rejecting the false choice between two harmful powers. We must speak truthfully, reject sectarian manipulation, and support the real victims: the oppressed Muslims suffering under both Israeli occupation and Iranian-backed violence.

Neutrality here is not silence, but a rejection of deception. It is choosing justice and truth over propaganda and blind allegiance. Our loyalty must be to the Ummah and to Islamic principles, not to regimes that exploit religion for power.

The first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are among the most blessed days in Islam. Many authentic hadiths highlight their virtue, including the saying of the Prophet ﷺ:
“There are no days during which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days.” (meaning the first ten days). The companions asked, “Not even Jihad for the sake of Allah?” He replied:
“Not even Jihad, except for a man who goes out with his life and wealth and returns with nothing.”

During these sacred days, Muslims are encouraged to increase their good deeds, such as prayer, fasting, charity, remembrance of Allah, and reading the Qur’an. The ninth day, known as the Day of Arafah, holds special significance—it is highly recommended to fast it, as it expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.

These days also include the great act of Hajj, and they end with Eid al-Adha, a day of sacrifice, joy, and gratitude to Allah.

**Preparing for the Blessed Month of Ramadan**

Ramadan is a sacred month of fasting, prayer, and self-reflection for Muslims around the world. To fully benefit from its spiritual and physical rewards, it is essential to prepare in advance.

One of the key steps is strengthening one’s faith through increased worship, such as reading the Quran, making dua, and engaging in voluntary prayers. Purifying the heart by seeking forgiveness and making sincere repentance helps create a fresh spiritual start. Additionally, developing self-discipline by gradually reducing excessive eating and screen time can ease the transition into fasting.

Another important aspect of preparation is planning healthy meals for suhoor and iftar to maintain energy levels. Giving charity and helping those in need also reflect the true spirit of Ramadan, fostering gratitude and compassion.

By preparing mentally, physically, and spiritually, a Muslim can make the most of this blessed month and strengthen their connection with Allah. 🌙✨

Islam emphasizes the importance of maintaining a distinct identity and avoiding imitation of non-Muslims in matters of religion or cultural practices that conflict with Islamic principles. One such issue is the celebration of Christmas, a holiday with religious and cultural significance tied to Christianity.

In Islamic teachings, the concept of monotheism (Tawhid) is central, and Muslims are encouraged to distance themselves from practices linked to beliefs or rituals that do not align with Islam. Christmas, at its core, has religious undertones associated with the birth of Jesus (peace be upon him), a concept that differs significantly between Islam and Christianity. Participating in this celebration can be seen as an acknowledgment of a belief system that Islam does not uphold, contradicting its principles of faith.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned against imitating other nations and their specific religious practices. He said, "Whoever imitates a people is one of them." This warning encompasses not only religious acts but also cultural symbols and festivities tied to other faiths. Islam encourages Muslims to preserve their unique religious and cultural identity, avoiding assimilation into practices that contradict its teachings.

Celebrating Christmas could also lead to compromising Islamic principles under the guise of politeness or coexistence. While Islam advocates for peaceful coexistence and mutual respect with non-Muslims, it does not permit participating in religious ceremonies or celebrations that conflict with Islamic beliefs.

It is vital for Muslims to be conscious of the importance of holding firmly to their faith and identity, steering clear of actions that might weaken them. Upholding Islamic principles requires confidence in one’s religion, reflected in actions and stances that demonstrate a commitment to the teachings of Islam.

The Virtue of Seeking Forgiveness and Its Impact on a Muslim's Life
Seeking forgiveness (Istighfar) is the key to mercy and relief, and it strengthens the bond between a servant and their Creator. Allah says in the Qur’an:
"And I said, ‘Seek forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in continuing showers. And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.’" (Surah Nuh: 10-12).

Istighfar is not merely words uttered by the tongue, but a deep feeling of remorse for sins, a sincere desire to return to Allah, and a commitment to self-improvement. Among its greatest benefits are the cleansing of sins, purifying the heart, opening doors to sustenance, relieving worries, and bringing blessings in both this world and the Hereafter.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, despite being sinless, sought Allah’s forgiveness more than seventy times a day, teaching us the importance of this daily act of worship. By sincerely saying "Astaghfirullah" (I seek forgiveness from Allah), we can unlock tremendous blessings in our lives.

Let us make seeking forgiveness a daily habit, especially in the early hours of the morning (suhur time), as it is the key to all goodness and a cure for every hardship. With Istighfar, we can experience inner peace and spiritual joy.
