ever felt pulled in a dozen directions at once?
for me, it’s not corporate job offerings trying to bribe me…
it’s competing travel apps,
men in my DMs offering to “show me their country,” (this happens more often than you think)
and group chats full of mindless chatter, never answering my travel question.
each nomad whispers “go to this country”, “why are you staying so long”, “you should be here during this month”,
and I’m left wondering…
with the choice that I settle on…
will I make friends?
find community?
get to show my extroverted side, even if I know nothing of the area and no one?
some locations it can feel like starting over again and again.
what’s helped?
routine.
doing the things I enjoy, no matter the destination 🏃🏼♀️☕️🌞
holding myself accountable to work (even when I don’t feel like it)
choosing structure, not chaos.
and slowly, the overwhelm softens.
the noise quiets.
the people who get it start to appear.

To the me who hadn’t left yet…
I remember her.
The version of me who hadn’t left Vancouver yet.
She hadn’t left her apartment, booked her flight, or had it all figured it out.
She wanted more connection, adventure, and most of all something real.
But had no idea how it would all work out.
She overthought everything↴
What if I don’t find my people?
What if I just don’t fit in, if I do meet people?
What if I go solo and I’m always eating alone?
I remember wondering…
If I don’t make new friends travelling, will phone calls home be enough to fill my social battery?
If I could talk to 2022 Anna now, I’d say this:
Be patient with the process, if you keep showing up, your people will come.
Some when you least expect it.
Not everyone is your cup of tea and that’s a good thing.
You’re not meant to fit in everywhere, you’re meant to belong.
You will meet people and you will find friends that drink the same cup of tea (or coffee let’s be honest).
Because nothing compares to the energy of new in-person connections.
The spontaneous laughs. The hugs and high-fives. That’s why I create pop-up colivings to make space for that magic.
So if you’re just starting out, or if you’re in between places right now
Keep showing up.
Keep being open.
Your people will come.
