I replaced the pressure sensor as it was inexpensive compared to the fuel pressure regulator. I was getting error codes for both so went with the cheapest first. Unfortunately it's still not right so I've ordered the fuel pressure regulator. The regulator is on the the front of the LHS fuel rail but can't be pulled out of the rail due to fuel pipes blocking it's path. What should be a simple job has been made tedious by design.
It would have been simple for the Engineers to reroute the fuel pipes or shorten the rail a bit and the job would be so easy.
This Bosch regulator is a common failure point. Symptoms are a lumpy idle, stalling, smoke and taking a long time to start. Also as is typical these days the regulator has been delisted as a separate part ... you have to purchase the complete fuel rail which costs a small fortune. The good news is other suppliers sell the Bosch part for about $AUD275.
You need 30mm and 35mm open end spanners to unscrew the regulator valve.
I'll work out the easiest way to do the job with the minimum removal of components and post a video in the near future.
