Since 2004, Scott Tanner (Tanner Productions) has been making not-so-short films, and videos about his passions: filmmaking, game design, and visual effects. This YouTube channel has acted as a (somewhat eclectic) portfolio since 2006. Thanks for stopping by!

Good news! I'm working on three brand new dev log videos about the progress I've made on Scarlet Harvest over the past six months.
Bad news: they're not quite done yet.
Your feedback on the current version of Scarlet Harvest helped me identify lots of areas I could improve, one example being the weird arms on the shotgun. But I also knew I'd need to work more on the storyline for the game too. But how do you write a narrative for a game? I'll break my process down in detail in devlog 4: "The pen is mightier than the shotgun".
With a fuller outline of where the game was heading, I could finally begin work on Scarlet Harvest's weapons. This is involved sketching, modelling, texturing and animated eight different weapons, ensuring each offers their own unique playstyle. I'll be breaking down how I did this step-by-step in devlog 5, which so far is simply called "Weapons".
Unfortunately, I got so distracted by making my weapons pretty, as well as a brand new enemy I'm calling the "midwife" (pictured), I neglected one of the fundamental rules of game design. Consequently, it didn't take long before I'd completely broken my game...and that was before I'd even started making levels for it. Devlog 6 will explain what the problem was and how I spent several weeks fixing it. But now my game is all the better for it!
Like I said, I'd hoped to have at least have one of these videos out by now...but alas life got in the way, and I wasn't fully happy with the script for devlog 4 so I've been tweaking that. I'm hoping I'll have something to share by the end of September. Until then, thanks for your continued support!

Today I finally hit the (somewhat arbitrary) goal of 4,000 subscribers! And I did it despite not posting a video for months. I've been super busy recently starting a new job in the world of games journalism. Pro: I get to do cool things like go to GDC now! Con: It has very much taken over my life and hasn't left a lot of room for my personal projects.
I continue to work on and off on Scarlet Harvest, modelling new weapons and starting to layout two more levels - this screenshot gives a sneak peek. I'm also editing a new video for my travel channel @tannertravels91 about the exploring I did whilst in San Francisco for GDC last month. At some point, I'd also like to do more FPS Creator Classics. In fact I've got no shortage of ideas for videos and games...just a shortage of time to create them!
Which is why I want to thank you for your continued support, despite my radio silence - it really means a lot!

It's been a year since I released my documentary, TheGameCreators vs. The Fans. Thanks everyone for the over 8,000 views and particularly the comments - it's been great to hear your opinions on TGC, their engines, and their future. So what do you think? Does GameGuru MAX have a brighter future than it did 12 months ago?

Just got back from a fantastic trip to Iceland, and obviously I filmed the whole thing. While most of my YouTube videos are game making or filmmaking related, I occasionally make travel videos too. They never perform very well but I enjoy making them and they give me a chance to experiment, learn new skills and test kit. I don't want to stop making them and I want there to be a public outlet for them so they're not just for my family. But do they belong here, on this channel? Do you mind seeing 1-2 videos a year about my travels, or should I make a separate channel to host these videos?

On this day a year ago, I released Ancestors, my entry into the WexShorts film competition (@WexPhotoVideo). I was extremely proud that it got into the top 5 of the competition. Since then, it's had a second life here on YouTube as a controversial and much-maligned "eco propaganda bullshit" film that has drawn huge amounts of criticism from climate-change deniers and trolls. On the plus side, it's cool that my film has amassed 137,000 views and continues to be a talking point, and it still has way more likes than dislikes. YouTube is a funny place sometimes...

Never would have thought an amateurish film about luck made by 17 year olds would have gone on to get 100K views some 10 years later. Thanks everyone!
