Gilbert “Choc” Charleston lived more than a century with courage, humility, and a heart rooted in family, service, and Choctaw tradition. Born in rural Oklahoma in the 1920s, he grew from humble beginnings into a proud World War II veteran who helped liberate Europe as a Sherman tank driver. Choc carried the weight of hardship, prejudice, and war with quiet strength, transforming every challenge into wisdom. He was a devoted son, husband, and father, a natural leader, and a man who dedicated his life to serving others.
Choc’s stories of resilience in the face of challenges, forging unbreakable bonds with his fellow soldiers, and giving back to Oklahoma communities reflect a life lived fully and honorably. His greatest wish was for us to be kind and lift up the people around us. His life remains a testament to dignity, resilience, and love.

"I think it’s important for people to get out there and learn about different cultures and the way things work in different places. Within your community, everybody’s always talking about how they want this change, or they want that change. But the thing is, nothing is going to be changed if we don’t learn how to change it."
