Analysis, QA consulting, discussion, strategy for survival horror, shooters, and other stuff! Any business inquiries through Twitter please. I reserve the right to censor/delete activity in the comments pages that is disrespectful or obscene.
To anyone who watched my Doom TDA review and saw way too many ads, I apologize. I was up til 8am that day, and just set the monetization to auto, and went to sleep. Turns out youtube placed like 30 ad breaks lol.
I have turned that off. I'm very sorry. Never using that option again!
My official review of DOOM: The Dark Ages has arrived!
Over 1 hour discussion combat tech like weapon swaps, parry cancels, shield bash cancels, shield toss cancels, falter strategy, and so much more that you'll only get here!
My Official Recommendations for DOOM: The Dark Ages players:
1) Turn off Auto Weapon Switch On Empty (you can't block or parry during this animation)
2) Lower the Resources slider on Nightmare
3) Single tap Parries
4) Switch weapons BEFORE doing Shield Bash (you currently can't buffer a new weapon coming out of it)
5) Set music to 100 and sound to 50-60 (it's just really hard to hear anything)
6) Change the color of Parryables if you want (I like purple)
7) Attack in-between multi-Parries
8) Recall the Shield Toss manually with the Toss button. (will not work if it doesn't make contact, you'll have to use block)
9) Turn on Parryables in the Threat Indicator setting
10) Use the final hit of your melee series as a hard falter against large enemies. (you can hit other enemies and save the kick for someone else)
Most of all, have fun. There is a lot of interesting tech in this game, and combat depth a lot of reviewers are currently missing. Play the game, feel your own feelings (the good and the bad), and if you like the combat there's a lot to discover. My 1 hour+ review tomorrow will actually open with 20 minutes of combat tech and difficulty discussion showing of advanced tactics of Animation Canceling and Weapon Swapping.
Join me tomorrow for an epic hour+ review of DOOM: The Dark Ages.
It is better to play the game first, feel your own feelings, and then come see me break down all the crazy stuff you likely missed. I have loads of combat tech, animation cancels, super heavy combos, and falter strategies.
This game is way deeper than people realize. Don't be fooled. I'm about to bust it wide open, you'll see. My review will open with nearly 25 minutes just on difficulty and combat depth.
Melting Cyberdemons and Agaddon Hunters in seconds. Parry bash cancels, rocket shield cancels, SSG reload cancels, glory strike weapon buffer. We're flying through at high speed and you're gonna see what this game really is.
Spoilers, you'll see all levels and the big boss fights. No story spoilers but essentially all gameplay. My honest feelings about the parts I don't like. Various issues I hope to see worked on. But overall, just a deep dive into what makes this game way more awesome than people are giving it credit for.
I'm about to start playing DOOM: The Dark Ages, reviewer access.
It's crazy to think about. Over 5 years ago, just waiting to play Doom Eternal, bursting with excitement. I've been through a lot since then. Personally, professionally. Relationships, health, multiple moves of house.
Now here I am about to play the game before it actually goes public, and it makes me look back on the time here, with all these games, with friends.
I don't know how much I'm gonna like TDA. I'm going with an expectation of "It was good. It was fun." And then I'm gonna let the rest surprise me.
Video embargos are for May 9th, but all footage is off embargo on May 13th. I'm not sure when I'll plan my own video for. I'd rather not rush it, maybe I'll do a small impressions video first.
Not gonna have a video this week (I don't like missing a week). I did actually play 5 different games in the last few days, but they were all for playtesting purposes. Can't make videos out of any of that work.
So... go watch someone else!
Meanwhile, a game that I did some playtesting and design consultation for just came out (yes, paid work). It's called WIZORDUM and it's very cool. Now on Steam.
I've got a big juicy 2 hour video coming out next week. Take a guess what it is...

DISREGARD what I said about Cosmic Baron's faltering. It's difficulty dependent. Does NOT work on nightmare!!!
