Bold Perceptions

Sitting in the secluded lounge tucked away behind the bookshelf of the highly renowned Sastrería Martinez Bar Oculto in Lima, Peru, I found myself reflecting on my hometown cigar lounge in Minnesota. It was a Friday evening, and here I was, enjoying this exclusive space with my lovely date all alone. The juxtaposition of these two experiences, separated by a decade, sparked a deep sense of gratitude within me.

Ten years ago, I was just a delusional kid, filled with ambition and an unwavering desire to live life on my own terms. I used to frequent that Minnetonka Cigar Jones, surrounded by seasoned individuals with their glasses of whiskey on the rocks and cigars in hand. I, too, immersed myself in that world, lighting stick after stick, seeking camaraderie and acceptance. Sooner than later, that audacious youngster would eventually earn the respect and admiration of those older gentlemen, decades my senior.

Countless sunrises and sunsets have painted the canvas of the past decade, and I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude for that delusional Midwest kid who defied the norms. He laughed at societal expectations and dared to chart his own course, gripping life firmly by the horns. It was his rebellious spirit that propelled me forward, his unwavering belief in doing what I truly wanted.

As I sat in that hidden lounge, the memories of the past unfolded like a reel of film, each frame capturing the moments when my delusional mindset transformed into tangible realities. I traveled the world, ticking off most of my bucket list, exploring cultures that once seemed distant and unreachable. I indulged in fantasies that never seemed within my grasp, had experiences beyond my wildest dreams.

Life, at this moment, is nothing short of extraordinary. And for that, I owe my sincerest gratitude to that delusional kid from the suburbs of Minnesota. He whispered in my ear, encouraging me to drown out the noise of conformity, to defy the limitations imposed by others, and embrace the wild ride life had to offer.

So here I am, a decade wiser, basking in the surreal ambiance of this hidden lounge. I raise my glass, not just to the memories that shaped me, but to the future that still holds infinite possibilities. Life is good, and I am eternally thankful I did shit my way.

Bold Perceptions

Here we are, on the stunning Amalfi coast, living out my own little talented Mr. Ripley fantasy during the pandemic summer. With my delusional americano confidence, obnoxious fashion, and a shirt that's seen better days, I'm completely immersed in the Italian way of life, living each moment to its fullest.

In the company of a beautiful Italian model, we indulged in life's pleasures, with too many drinks to count, close to a pack a day of lucky strikes, & enough seafood to make you sick. These photos capture a moment of pure indulgence that I'll cherish forever - the embodiment of la dolce vita.

As Anthony Bourdain once said, travel isn't always pretty or comfortable, but the journey changes you in ways that should leave a mark on your memory, consciousness, heart, and body. This moment in my life will always be remembered as one where I embraced the Italian way of living (at least what I thought It was) and threw caution to the wind.
